I had recently picked up a XFX 5770 for christmas. Everything worked fine on World of Warcraft, and then I went to mess around on L4D2 and I got this weird crash. The screen went to gray and white vertical lines and I could not alt tab, windows key, or control alt delete out of it. So I reset the computer and didn't really think much of it.
Well skip forward a week and now this problem has become much more serious. I was viewing some youtube videos in full screen mode and it crashed like before. So I restart it and try watching a different video and 2 mins into it the card crashes again. After that I go and try playing TF2 to see what happens. It crashes one time in the menu and another while loading a server.
Now this is really starting to concern me. Its now crashing in all my games including WoW and in flash programs. The only game it did not crash in was Crysis. I was about to order a new power supply off of newegg when I decided to google my problem to see if it was widespread. I found many threads on the ATi forums complaining about their 5xxx series cards doing exactly what its doing to me. It appears to be a widespread issue, but then I wondered why I have not heard one word of it on OCN.
Here is a thread I found that sums up the issue very well and has links to other threads around the internets. It seems like nobody knows what is causing it (A lot of people say its due to the 2d clocks jumping up to 3d speeds over and over really fast.) but ATi blames a recent Windows 7 update which makes no sense because people with Vista and even linux are having the issue.
So my question for OCN is: Any of you have the problem stated above, and have you found a solution?
