Peltier vga setup

Thread Starter
i really know very little about peltiers and all, but i was wondering what i would need to setup a peltier on my vid card, which is an x800se. i know id need the peltier, ofcourse, but im not really sure what kind or what wattage or what, and then id need some sort of wc setup to cool the peltier, but thats all i know. also just to let you know im not planning on cooling my cpu or anything if i had a wc setup, just the card

OK.....Im not the guru of the peltier cooling BUT... I know it takes at least a 226watt pelt to do the job(more if you can get it) and a fairly hefty water cooling rig to cool the pelt. If youve done any reading up at all on peltiers you will know that you need to keep the warm side as cool as possible for the pelt to work correctly. All this said and done then you need a power supply to make the pelt work, can be an expensive task, the power bill will go up and you need to get the power supply organised, Ive been warned off this kind of cooling but I did it anyway, it worked for me but I need improvement yet. A modded water cooling kit is almost a must and you should pobably try it on a rig that you can afford to kill!!!! If you stuff anything up you will either cause a fire or just destroy your rig.(WARNING I NEARLY DID IT AND IM NOT THE FIRST)A power failure to the pelt can be a disaster. Although Pinhead seems to be ok with out it running???? Its hard to fill you in with the details, there will have to be other help to get you through this project but all in all once youve done it- its really pretty easy to do. Should you go ahead with this project there is plenty of help from the few experienced pelt cooler crew!!!(IM ALWAYS LEARNING TOO) Do some reading and see if you are keen........

The hardest part of pelt cooling a video card is finding the waterblock that will accept a decent-sized pelt. Most pre-made GPU TEC's use an 80-W pelt, which with today's GPU's isn't nearly enough. One of the TEC assemblies (I can't remember which atm) is big enough to swap the 80-watt pelt for a 172-watt model. IMHO this is still barely enough, though. I agree with Tuchan that a 226 watt pelt would work perfectly, since you'd have some headroom to turn the voltage to it down a bit.

Read this guide it's a sticky in the Peltiers / TEC section.

Hopefully it'll help a bit. And ask if you have any uncertanties. Like tuchan said, a mistake with a peltier can become very costly very quickly.
