I just got the game yesterday, and I'm a private trying to get private first class; the bar that says experience until next rank is totally full (white), how do I get the class? Also how can I unlock the weapons?

BF2's servers are rather slow in updating and often fail at showing your new rank until a few hours after you've obtained it xD

As for the weapon unlocks, you normally will receive them immediately after ranking up (some of the earlier ranks don't give you unlocks). I'd reccomend going to http://www.BF2S.com and pressing "UBAR" up at the top, which will tell you all about the different ranks and unlocks and such.

The more you play the more awards you earn and thus the closer you get to the next rank. Also when you earn the next rank you get a weapons unlock in which you can chose your next weapon unlock such as a better sniper rifle or a better special ops and so on.........hope this helps.

Actually, the different awards such as badges and ribbons don't assist you in raising your score or ranking up. Awards are more or less simply things to show off how skilled you are at certain things in-game. Your global score is what affects your rank, and your global score is raised by teamwork points (such as capping bases, healing someone, providing supplies, being a commander, blowing up strategic objects, etc) and kills.

It was agreeing with you but now that I think about it it could actually all count in furthering your journey to the next level or are you just guessing it doesn't count? I really haven't thought of it before, I just like to play regardless of how I get to the next rank.

In sense you are both right because the points that you racked up in the map to get the award will go towards your total points for your next rank anyway but just having the medals/awards doesn't give you any bonus apart from self gratification!

As for m|dg3t just keep playing & rack those points up and your unlocks will come altho some of the unlocked weapons aren't that good!
