Trying to find a better PSU for a Sony Vaio

Hi there everyone,

I've got a Sony Vaio PCV-RX 991. I recently picked up a GeForce 6600, and after swapping it, I started getting screen freezes and lockups. After talking with Sony and EVGA techs, I've found that my problem most likely lies in the fact that I have a 268 watt PSU.... yes, that's right 268 screaming watts of power. EVGA techs say I need a minimum of 350w, but would like 400w or more.

So I looked at the PSU, and it's like nothing I've ever seen. No standard mounting holes, like an ATX, but instead mounted into a sub-chassis for quick assembly by people in third world countries making pennies a day. It's also got a fan on the bottom of it that covers the whole of the bottom, with a duct that goes down to the mobo for the computer's only source of cooling.

I've written Delta Electronics, but have not received a response from them. I think they had to have made a higher wattage PSU to Sony's specs, as Sony made more powerful computers at the same time, but I can't find one anywhere. Here's the specs on it:

Sony Vaio PCV RX 991
Delta Electronics PSU: DPS 246AB-1B(Sony P/N 1-468-710-51)

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide in finding a higher wattage PSU that will fit this computer.

thanks for your time,

Your computer is most likely ATX compliant. And if it isn't, you can always put the PSU on top of you case.

Here is an excellent PSU

Antec Smart Power 2.0 500W for $60. It retails fro $107. I have one and I love it.

Hi

Did you ever find a suitable PSU? I'm trying to replace the same unit, but cannot find a PSU with the same dimensions and screw hole layouts.
