xbox headset help

Thread Starter
i'm new to xbox live, since the headset didn't come with any instructions on how to use it, i need some help, what does pushing the button that changes the color of the light do? i figure it mutes it, but am not sure, also, on halo 2 and all of my other games even when i am not talking into the mic and nothing around me is making noise, it says i am talking and people complain that i am making a weird noise into my mic, please help

any ideas? i really need help as i have gotten kicked about 3 times for this and i don't even know how it's happening

does the noise happen everytime you try to use the mic?... usually its just a connection problem so pulling the communicator out and plugging it back in should fix it... you can try blowing into the slot on the controller and the space on the communicator, then plug it back in

if none of that fixes it, it sounds like something is wrong with the communicator or headset... fyi, in halo 2, and probably other games, pressing the white button and talking in to the headset means only your team can hear you

yes the noise seems to happen every time i am using the communicator, even if i am on the screen that shows the players that will be in the halo 2 game where there is no noise generated by the tv the icon that indicates whether a player is talking or not is constantly flashing, and people start to tell me to shut up

thanks, i'll try cleaning out the slots as soon as i can get back on, anyone else with suggestion please leave them!

Usually people will tell you to stop breathing into the mic. It tends to pic up breath very well. You could try to position it further from your mouth, and check to make sure that there are no fans blowing on it or background music.

You can try using a cell phone headset to see if the headset that you have is faulty, or perhaps the socket isn't making a tight connection.

lol, i held my breath once to see whether that was what was causing it once, but it kept doing it, there aren't any fans in my rooms and i don't listen to music while i'm playing. it's always quiet yet i still am being told i am making the weird noise
hmm, i don't have a cell phone headset handy, but it'll try making sure everything is plugged in well

thanks alot
