Help with overclocking a P4 for a first timer

Thread Starter
I was just going to ask a couple questions because i just got done building my computer. Ok well here it goes. I was wondering if it would be worth oc'ing my 3.0 p4 to 3.2/3.4 or if i wouldnt be able to tell too much of a difference ... and if i did oc it then would it overheat/damage anything if i did it .. and what is a safe idle temp for an average p4 3.0? Thank you ahead of time. !And hello to everyone on the site.! Im 18 and this is my first comp i built and am going to be using it for mostly gaming and dl music and movies.

Welcome to the forums..

I am not sure what the Temperature specs are on that processor.. someone will know though.

You should notice a difference when you overclock. At least when you bench mark or video encode or fold. Maybe not a lot on 200-300mhz but you will notice a little.

AVG Anti-virus is a good Free Anti-Virus and it not to much of a system resource hog.

Avast is another free one you can try.

I had a P4 3.0ghz clocked up to 3.9ghz stable using a Gigabyte Rocket cooler . but icant remember what i had @ on stock heatsink and fan. But im quite sure that 3.4 whould be no problem possibly 3.6ghz but watch your temps if you have increase core voltage .

Avast is awesome, I love it

Welcome to the forums, and fill out your rig specs un your user CP...

And yes, I think you'd notice a big difference just from 400mhz

Well they way I work it in my house is everytime I upgrade all the parts get shifted down to the rest of the family. That way everyone gets upgrades. I would say get what you want and give him the 80gig.

After all you love your brother right
