All I've read about AMD is how bad they are when it comes to gaming.

Don't get me wrong, I do not game often, but when I do it is very important to me that things are running efficiently.

Your thinking of the Phenom I series. That was an embarassment...the Phenom II chips are SOOO much better for the money....trust me on this one.

I've gone through a Q6600, E8400, and now a Phenom II 720. Love the Phenom II by far more than the other 2.
There dual cores are kicking some major arse now too

Budget Intel Chips like the Pentium and Celeron's haul ass for the money. Drop your chip down to save cash. Make sure you start with a decent power supply. Buying an 80-85% efficient brand name power supply will blow room temp air out the back and be completely silent. OCZ 500 Stealth is a great choice for what you are doing. Do realize that the 9800GT will suck more power and make more heat then the rest of the entire build.

Save $50 and just get the Intel E5300 2.6ghz 2MB chip for $79. Then there is no reason to go AMD. A budget AMD will suck more power & generate more heat then the budget Intel's.

Also, save some cash to buy an SSD drive for your boot drive sometime later this year. SSD will make the biggest speed bonus for your machine. Keep in mind that the new 45nm chips and hard drives are very efficient and run nearly silent. If you use a good case, good 120mm fans, the OCZ Stealth 500, and WD Green drive - the only thing you are going to here is the fan on your 9800GT

ADDED: See my build below? The loudest thing in the case is the Zalman cooler onthe 8800GT. The rest of the machine is nearly silent. No matter what I do I can't get that fan to slow down. Almost time to solder a cap on it to get it to calm down.

appreciate the suggestion, I'm still a half a week from making my actual purchases.

I've heard that cheaper SSD's are simply crap, is this over exaggerated?

Any more explanation on the reason behind getting the 5300? I don't really have a problem with the current price of the build.

that looks like a solid build, don't go to low on the cpu or else it will start to bottleneck your gpu and will effect gaming,

you can also go for 2 19" monitors, if you look good enough and for sales you can get them for around 120$ (119.99)

Edit: found this 19" http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...751&CatId=2388
