Smart Guardian miss reading?

Thread Starter
Hi all, I am wondering if it is possible for the monitoring software that came with my mobo to be miss reading my CPU temps? They read about the same as my bios but they seem low to me. I thought Opterons were supposed to run hotter then other proc's??. BTW the temps I am getting are 20 - 22 c idle and around 32 - 34 max load ( prime x3 and folding). Everest and MBM5 all read higher by about 12 - 14c or so on the proc but the other temps all read the same with all software. Should I trust Smart Guardian? Thanks All!

P.S. Room temp is about 18c or so, got to love the basement!

I don't know much about the Expert BIOS and such...going to have to wait for someone who has one or knows about them possibly.

Check the PC Health in the BIOS - supposedly the BIOS puts cpu at ~70% load (somehow) so judge BIOS-read idle/load temps accordingly.

This is the truth: smartguardian, PC health, speedfan, MBM... when it comes to the Expert, they all give wrong temp readings (low). No bios fix for this yet. Proceed with caution.

Well you are running water, you are in a cold basement with really low ambient temps, and you have an Opty. They run pretty cool. Mine runs about as cool as my SD, which did run a little warmer than my Winny (thanks to the 1mb l2 vs. 512k). 34 C load is pretty good but when you take ambients in to account I think you're temps are dead on. 16 C difference between ambient & load temps are what I usually calculate. Man I need to write a FAQ on this. No need to worry.

My BIOS temps read the same as my windows temp's while folding around 22c or so.

edit: slow'puter how much of a variance between read outs and actual temps do you think there could be? Transonic I hope your right! These temps rock.

Sounds pretty close to me. I mean, 18 C ambient will help your temps a LOT. What is your watercooling setup? Depending on what parts you have in the loop, I'd say those temps sound pretty accurate. If its a kit that isnt known to be very good then maybe not. So what are you running? My dangerden setup keeps my 6800GT at about 44 C load and my cpu at about 40 C load with a 22 C or so ambient so that sounds right to me. I also have a prescott which is super hot, and the GPU doesnt run cool at all. So, with 18C ambients, an opty should run right around 34-36 load. The voltage might change that though so watch out.

For my watercooling I have a Zalman CPU and GPU block, 2 120 mm koolance rads, and the pump and res from my old big water kit. I will be upgrading the pump and res soon, but this one seems to be doing ok. My main worry was if I could trust what the software was telling me. Vcore is 1.45 now and my folding temp is 26, when I close it temps drop to 20 - 22 in about 30 seconds.

Sorry for another double post, but the temp difference has grown after I flashed to the newest DFI Bois. Smart guardian is still reading the same but everest reads just under 50 under load or idle, what should I believe?

50C on water is not right. Just not right. Not at 1.45vcore. Make sure the cpu waterblock is properly seated against the cpu. Just double check.
I flashed to the 12/07 oficial bios and no temp differences have been noted.
