The Planning Stage

Hey everyone. As you may have gathered from the title I'm planning a new build. I would greatly appreciate any and all input you have to offer me. Anything with an * I'm really not so sure about.

Case: Antec 1200
Motherboard: Asus Rampage II Extreme
CPU: Intel i7-920 (Will OC)
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-1000HX
GPU: ATi HD5970 * (I'm hoping for some Fermi numbers soon. I need to know if would be worth it to get a older GPU for now until the Fermi's release.)
Memory: Mushkin Enhanced Redline 6GB DDR3 * (Anything better?)
OS Drive: Intel X25-M 80GB SSD
Storage Drives: 5x Seagate 7200.12 1TB in RAID 5
RAID Controller: Perc 5/i * (If I can find one for cheap)
CPU Heatsink: Megahalems
CPU Fans: 2x Xigmatek XLF-F1254 Push/Pull *
Thermal Paste: OCZ Freeze * (Whats THE best?)
Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2410 24"

So yeah. That's what I've got so far.

Thanks in advance!

The Twelve Hundred, as I've realized, is a very feature-lacking case. There's nothing wrong with it, but factory cable management could be better, and the front panel is very plain. It does look nice, though.

4TB storage seems a bit overkill. But hey, whatever floats your boat. The onboard RAID controller would save you a lot of money, and you probably won't notice the difference in storage drives.

Arctic Silver is considered top quality stuff by most, but I use OCZ Freeze and it does just fine.

The Antec 1200 is a really nice case, and pretty big to boot, it will certainly house anything you need. Might I suggest a larger monitor? say 28'' or 30''? if not, I would at least go for a dual monitor setup with that system.

looks good, only thing i can think of is maybe a bigger monitor (30 in. 2560x1600... if its in the budget)and i use arctic silver 5 for thermal paste. tunic tx-3 is promising if you can get past the hellish spreading of the paste on the processor.

Believe it or not, the build does have a budget. I would LOVE a 30" monitor, however, with that list I'm about 200 from my budget limit... not including tax/shipping.

Anesthetic,

Don't Skimp out on the monitor. My monitor in my SIG, I would recommend to everyone and anyone.

I'm definitely open to looking into more monitors, which I plan to do in the next few days.

I've also thought about lessening the RAID array and going to water cooling.

Keep the suggestions coming!

Don't stop there guys. I need all the suggestions and help I can get. I'm hoping this thread evolves into what will be my final build!

A couple of new things I'm thinking about.

1) CPU watercooling. I don't know much about it, tho. I don't think I'd water cool anything else, atleast not at this point in time.
2) Cutting back the raid array to 3 drives.
3) Monitor(s)
