im currently running a 2.8 ghz intel p4 ht... what socket 939 processor would i notice a nice increase in performance from... cuz i just ordered my motherboard from newegg.. its the dfi lanparty sli expert

At about the same price ... monarch has the 148 Opty in oem and for a bit more Retail box.
The latest 148 seem to oc well and you get 2x more cache than with the 3500+ Venice
It will kick your old CPU's can ... even if it's not OCed!

a 3000+ venice would be a performance increase..cheap too

Yes... but the $30 ish more will get 2x the cache and a far faster @ default CPU with the Opty 148 (939) $207

He's right...
AMD Opteron 148 have 1MB L2 & SSE3 against 512KB L2 & no SSE3 in AMD 3500+. & AMD Opteron 148 is only 23$ more than AMD 3500+

of course the opty will be better, I was just recommending the starting point for a performance increase.
He never mentioned his budget..
