[Intermediate] Caraboose's ammo box

Going to be doing an Antec 300, complete overhaul this year in the shape of an ammunition box that has been shot up.

What that entails:
  • Buying an Antec 300
  • Create a plan
  • Make cable management holes
  • Buy U-Chanel
  • Make a wooden holder for the side panel
  • Mark bullet hole placements
  • Go to the range and fire some bullets at the side panel at the markings
  • De-rivet the whole case
  • Chop the top off, and make a latch on the front and hinges on the back
  • Powder coat it a darkish green, the color that ammo boxes are
  • Re-rivet the whole case
  • Paint on the caliber and quantity of the contents of this ammo box.
  • Get green cathodes to make the bullet holes stand out from the panel.
  • Install hardware
  • Get it up and running

Complete tasks (date included):
Create a plan - January 3 2010
Buying an Antec 300 - January 4 2010
Make cable management holes - January 5 2010
Make a wooden holder for the side panel - January 9 2010
Mark bullet hole placements - January 9 2010
Go to the range and fire some bullets at the side panel at the markings - January 10 2010

Worklog:
Most of the holes cut for cable management, side panel holder is made, and bullet holes are planned out.
Shooting has been done.

Most of the holes are cut out. Still have a few more to do once I get the PSU I can finish the rest.

Been a while since the last update but I've gotten around to the update finally.

Put the hinges on
Painted the vast majority of the case
De riveted most of the case
Ordered some parts to put some final touches onto it

It's done. Not to what I had planned totally, but I've run out of steam for this project. Just taking up to much room, and I've gotten really busy with other projects and school.

Oh my Caraboose! I know the feeling, $$$ is hard to come by these days and I know that Antec case did cost a good penny ($100usd?). The hinged top cover is a great spark of genious and did you really shoot the bullet holes? Can't get any more real than that, hehe!

If you are up to it next year, let's see if we can get better focus on this contest to make it the best event ever and one that will surpass the monthly mods. Hmmm.. a suggestion might be to suspend the MOTM for July so that the yearly contest take center stage.

You did finish as best as you could which means that you have the determination to do the best you can with what resources you can muster. Pride is finishing I think. I would have felt really bad if I had just left my log unfinished. It would mean that I let the guys down, the site, the event and ultimately, myself. So congratz for getting as far as you did!
