Thanks for not being a-holes... and helping all of us newbs through the hard times.... ok time for another question ... if i get two decently fast 80 gig hard drives will it be slower or the same as a 160 gig drive? thanks ahead of time.

If you set it up in raid 0 it will act as a single 80 gig harddrive but with twice the speed. The other way around it'll act as one big harddrive so no performance increase.

raid 0 would mean it would act as one 160 gig drive actually.

To set up raid you have to reinstall windows...but this time install drivers for raid and install it on your array.

i havent programmed my comp yet i still have yet to install all of the programs so when im installing what do i do to make it 2X as fast? And will i be able to save separately in harddrives... cuz i want to use one for games/music and the other for everything else... since my processor comes tomorrow!

When windows is first loading off the cd The blue screen it will say press f6 to install raid drivers do that.You have to have the raid drivers on a floppy disk.

Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks, is a great way to improve drive performance and reliability. RAID 0, which is what you probably want, stripes the information across both drives, utilizing all of the space available on the drive, and offers an increase in performance (20% - 50%) in some of the tests I hsve seen. It also increases the possibility of total data loss, seeing as you now will have two or more drives acting as one unit, with no contigency for redundancy. If one drive should fail, the whole array fails.

they may be on your mb cd take a look.If so formate a floppy and put them on it.

ok so if i leave them alone then itll load normal and they will act as 2 drives right ... with no preformance up ?:???? cuz if so ill just do that ... for now i want no risks of losing any data... thanks for the enlightenment ... Data loss is the last thing i wanted.
