I just tried 3.8 at the same settings but the temp reached 72C

so 3.75 is the MAX with stock cooling and after that i need to get a good cooler

Excellent clock omari.
if you dont mind me asking how do you have the ram setup? I beleive im running into a ram problem because my bios is slightly confusing. I have been unable to go over 270mhz fsb and I was wondering if you ran into this same issue. I tried the exact setting you used and it wouldnt post. Im using corsair dominator ram XMS2 and I know it is highly overclockable. my cpu handle 3.5ghz 270x13 just fine and that is only 1.29vcore in the bios. I have a excellent cooling system to my highest recorded temp using prime was 49c and my cpu fans were at 35% so I could crank them up and freeze it if needed.

but yes please get back to me about my ram. Does your bios give you control over the divider? my divider options are confusing, 1:1.00 , 1:1.25 , 1:1.50 , 1:1.75, 1:2.00. and thats pretty much it.

Also this being a 45nm cpu it runs quite cool if you want a damn good cooler go to tigerdirect and buy the Cool Master Hyper N520 its only like 30$ and cooling like the best, there is only a 3c margin between it and the famous ThermalTake 120

Thanks, I just put my E5300 rig together and it seems I did get a newer E5300 with VT. Thanks

prime95 CPU v 1.32
Ideal temp 45C

So i have a good Overclocker after all

i will revert back to 3.5Ghz or even 3Ghz because My GPU isn't worthy of such a great CPU (my CPU is bottlenecked by it @ even 2.6):swearing:

so then
oh wow, that's pretty much exactly the settings i used to have my e5200 at... what exactly is the effect of CPU termination/ref?

first

Your ram is PC2-8500 which is operates at 1066DDR2 and yes they overclock well, so i don't think that the problem is your ram

also, you got a good cooler so you are set for 3.8Ghz+ speeds

now

Some rules you need to follow when Overclocking

1- find your FSB wall (put your CPU multiplier to 6x and start raising the FSB slowly starting from 200MHZ and reboot in 10mhz-5mhz instruments, and you need to do that while keeping an eye on your ram speed so it never exceeds its speed spec, so do that until you find your exact FSB wall (mine starts past 340Mhz) you will know when your CPU hits the FSB wall because it won't boot until you clear the CMOS or you will have a multiple-phase booting like mine and your CPU will boot @ stock settings

2- Divider setup is not important as long as you keep you ram within it's voltage and speed specs, as you can see from my detailed speed posts, i only put the memory speed, but when i get back home i will give you the exact same latch and multiplier i am using but that won't be really helpful since my RAM operates @ 800Mhz so different latches and Multipliers apply to me

oh and never leave anything on auto, most motherboard tends to throw way more voltage than needed when you start overclocking, also, Disable all CPU power saving features in the bios until you stabilize you OC

Someone explained to me the CPU termination so i am going to copy and past what he said

CPU/FSB Termination Voltage (Vtt): P4x Chipset: 1.14v-1.26v, 1.2v Typical, 1.45v Max (Intel E7xxx/8xxx Datasheet)
Source -> Line -> Component -> Short line -> Termination
The "lines" in this case are signal traces. High speed switching operations can cause reflections on the line (in essence, this is resonant noise caused from high-speed switching on the lines as the memory controller gates on and off to place data on the bus, nothing more than rising and falling voltages). Clearly enough, the faster the signal switches (higher frequency memory) the more noise. So to compensate for noise and reflection as the NB voltage and FSB frequency is raised so to must be the FSB Termination voltage be raised to mirror the NB voltage increase and the Frequency increase. This will in effect smooth the ripple effect caused by increasing on end and not the other.

so i think it has a stabilizing effect on increasing the FSB speed and NB voltage, i have it set to 1.3 (max is 1.5)

now for the CPU reference i noticed that the value of options available increases as you increase the CPU voltage so try different combination between the CPU v and the CPU ref v and see what works for you

indeed but it might be for mine, in any case, me reaching a stable 3.75Ghz can be attributed to two things

1- increasing the NB v
2- increasing the CPU termination v

you can overclock it to see its limit on stock cooling, not sure about the quality of your motherboard but the E5300 can reach 3.6 with extreme ease even on the 40USD EP31 motherboard but don't expect any change in FPS if you game cause your 9600GSO (a bit more powerful than what i have) is already bottlenecking your CPU @ it's stock speed of 2.6Ghz
