E5300 total score@ 3.5ghz= 2208.3
E8400 at stock= 2015
E8600 at stock= 2216

e8400 is 8.7% slower than my e5300
e8600 is 0.4% faster than my e5300
its because of the cache size difference as e5300 is equipped with 2mb L2 Cache and E8600 with 6mb L2 cache ...... but its not a damn huge difference....

My Dram frequency is set at 883 mhz.... i installed a 2 GB 800mhz yesterday and my total memory is 2.5 gb with a 512mb@ 667mhz
Good effort but there are two problems with your benchmarks:

1- you are running a 512Mb 667Mhz with a 2GB 800, so you are not running your DRAM in dual channel mode, the E5300 @ 3.5Ghz 10.5x333FSB needs 10.8GB/s of Bandwidth from your RAM, and you can't touch that number cause i am running 2x2Gb PC2-6400 (800Mhz) in dual channel mode and its giving me 12.5GB/s of bandwidth, in short what i am trying to say is that your E5300 performance is crippled by your DRAM configuration

2- What is your FSB @ 3.5Ghz? because the FSB has a much greater impact on performance than DRAM speed

for example

3.5Ghz (10 x 350FSB) is faster than 3.5Ghz(10.5x333FSB) which in turn is faster than 3.51Ghz (13x270FSB)

Don't forget that the E8600 is a 1333 (333FSB) bus CPU so you need an E5300 with a 1333 bus configuration (10.5x333FSB) for a correct comparison

also the E5300 @ 3.5Ghz is only faster than a -stock- speed E8600, once you OC the E8600 to 4Ghz it will smoke the E5300 @ any speed, on the other hand, my E5300 cost me 45USD while the E8600 will cost you around 270

So in terms of price/performance, you can't beat the E5x00 series

thats a very nice result qazishehryar

i myself never thought about upgrading since it can handle all my graphic applications very well.. almost perfect in fact ,.. i do print and online design, so i guess i'll skip thuban and i7 and prolly straight to i10 when really needed

one thing though, i dont like synthetic benchmark that much , here i made example what E5000 series can really perform when overclocked.

its a real rendering apps, you can see result here

My E5300@4.0Ghz / 18m 47s

see there (render time on bottom left), really sick performance for $50, on par with an oced E8000 series and even stock Quad series

thx

As i told you before, your system is crippled by your choice of RAM and FSB speed

Check out my results to see the difference that High FSB and Dual channel mode makes

Attachment 154020

Your score @ 3.5Ghz was 2208.3
My score with the same speed of 3.5Ghz is 2884.3

thats 30% faster than a stock 3.33Ghz 270USD E8600

you can do much better with your system

Hey guys, having super trouble overclocking my e5300! Got an asus cm5570 MB and cant seem to overclock it (flashed bios and tried oc'ing software from asus only to be able to change the bus speed). If there is some other program or if someone else has a tip please help! I was told this could be a locked bios but i'm hoping that's not the case

I would recommend getting another 2Gb stick... i don't think dual channel mode will work properly if you have different sized sticks
