I got invited in here but I don't have a 5300, i got a 5200. It's was a pretty good cpu but i think something is wrong with it because ever since I put it into this asus p5n-d board with the same stock cooler and arctic silver 5 both asus 'pc probe' and speedfan say I have a temp that is going sky high 70-80c as soon as prime95 starts. the weird thing is that the cpu core temps stay low under full load around 40c so i don't understand it. I was told to try realtemp and coretemp to check my temps and they say my cpu temp are around 40c also. so I am very confused. my cpu is running stock cooling at default voltage and clock speed. the rest of my specs are 6 GB patriot extreme proformance ddr2 Ram 2x2GB 2x1GB, corsair 400CX 400W PSU, crappy nvidia 7300gt vid card(getting replaced) OCZ agility 60GB SSD( OS and Programs), 1TB seagate hdd (storage), I am getting a cpu cooler this week.:..Cooler Master RR-B10-212P-G1 Hyper 212 Plus, and a vid card soon.

can anyone tell me what is up with this heat problem, or is it really a problem?hold on I will take a screen shot

core temp and real temp report exactly temps what should be on load so you should trust that temps ,that programs is best , by my self i never use speedfan its cheapstuff for me . and it just report bad aswell as i see . really if u seat ur hsf fine and core temps show ur load 53 then it report correctly and thats where u should look for temps .

+ added: i once just turn on speedfan and it screwed up my system with bsod and windows boot.ini file modification like i cant boot up ,good i had second OS . and i heard many stuff from ppl about speedfan . core temp is reporting correct.

Like boyka said, just go with core temp or real temp they are the only programs that give you accurate temp reading, the rest are all shinning GUIs and stupid temp detections

where should I start? My asus p5n-d mobo has an auto overclock setting in bios where I can overclock by 5%, 10%, and 20%, I am scared it will overvolt my cpu though. I am still waiting on my cpu cooler from amazon and graphics card from newegg. in the mean time I'd like you guys to chime in on what adjustments I should make to multiplier, freq, and vcore.thanks in advanced.

an easy overclock if your DRAM is PC2-6400 (800Mhz) is to set:

Multiplier 13
FSB 270
PCI-E 100
CPU core v 1.30
and keep your DRAM speed close to 800Mhz by playing with the DRAM multiplier

thats a very easy and safe 3.5Ghz OC

I tried oc'ing to 4.0 but it wouldn't boot so I backed it down quite a bit until I get a better cooler later this week.. please tell me that this high temp is bogus since the others say there is no problem.
