and will it work with all of my stuff? i have the ribbon cable ide i guess .. im new ... and will it work with fine with my 80 gig which is the usual 7200 ..... can i raid both of them?

its okay, not really up to current spec though. yes you can RAID both but the array will default to the lowest capacity so you will lose 40gbs of space on the 120 and the 80 will most likely have to slow down to the 120's speed and might create a problem. Its always best to match drives of similar specs.

Meh, its alright you could have a higher gig, and sata is way better. And yes you can raid it.

Speed is one part of it.
The other part is how effective the firware is in finding/retrieving data.

Latency isn't too bad for the size (and IDE.) But the seek time is on the high side IMHO.

Edit:
What he meant on the RAID thing...

If you do RAID0 (striped) or RAID1 (mirror) you will only be using 80GB of the 120GB drive for it.
Also, if the drives have different read/write/etc. you can hurt perfomance a bit.

yes they both spin at the same speed but the drive he listed has aa seek time of 11.5ms and current gen drives have a seek time of around 9ms
