Upgrade ?? Asus Or Dfi - Page 2

It talks about the ASUS A8N32-SLI compared to the DFI LP SLI-DR. It's a good article, you should read it then make your choice.

//edit, most people swear by DFI here, but if you talk to Yiffy, heh....well, just talk to him bout it.

hey, I have the A8N-SLI Deluxe, and while it's a great board... easy to OC and has good stability there are a few problems.

first, as previously mentioned you can't run a 1T command rate past about 240Mhz htt.. thus I'm stuck running 2T
second, it can only supply 3.0v to the RAM so you would have to get new RAM as I believe you have BH-5
third, it can only give the core 1.55v (depends on cpu, but that's all I can do)
The chipset fan on the deluxe is crap and you will need to replace it

I have never owned DFI... but I'm thinking that I'm going to give them a try w/ my next mobo

If you want high voltages, then DFI currently is your only choice on the NF4 chipset. MSI is coming with a new Neo4 that promises the same kind of voltage adjustments as the DFIs. However, DFI also brings headaches, rediculous incompatibilites and poor quality. Yes, they can overclock like stink, but they can also just stink.

My A8N SLi probably can't push my Opteron as much as a DFI could, but the fact that I got where I am without a single hangup or hiccup says something to me

DFI motherboards are great, if you can get them to work right (not that difficult if you know what you are doing). My brother was able to clock my old Venice 3000+ to 2.7GHz with his Ultra-D while I was only able to get it to 2.5GHz with my EPOX. The DFI board will definetly give you the edge over others, but there are several brands out there that will still manage to give you similar performance. Go with ASUS if you want a "smooth" experience, go with the DFI if you don't mind getting your hands dirty.

You have an Ultra-D, there is only one way to go from there, SLI-DR or Expert. I say stick to DFI.

Asus, and I know this as I have a couple of Asus boards, are rock solid, and decent overclockers.

Extreme overclocking is DFI business.

a8n32 sli will be the one to get if you wanna do some good ocing with asus, and asus would be some really good ocer's if they had more voltage available and that is where the a8n32 picks up some of the slack- but with the extreme ocing you need more voltage hence dfi will be able to get higher oc's
