Any chance of adding s478?

I wanted to play with one of those for this competition!

I like the idea of the this contest but I think it could be improved.

first, are tri cores gonna be allowed? and what freq will they run at?

secondly for the AM3 bracket it will be unfair. A quad at 3.6 can win the wprime but a dual with 4 ghz will smoke the quad at the other benchmarks, even with tweaking

You are mistaken partly...the benchies will be half-half, split between dual and quad performance. A Quad will do much better on wprime and pifast...the dual will do better on 3D '01 and 1mi Pi... so effectively, the only bench you need to worry about is MaxxMem! ..and 3x cores will be run as dual's with 1x core disabled.

Maybe you are thinking about Intel but for AMD a X2 will perform the same as a X4 at pifast. Therfore the quad will be unable to compete with the dual or tricores here and will be at a disadvantage. So if you put this aside the only difference between AMD 2 core and 4 core will be in wprime. Since pifast is already messed up here is my suggestion.

For AM3 CPUS they should all be clocked at say 3.8 GHz (4ghz is a bit hard to reach with some quads and this is a same clock challenge) and wprime is to be run with 2 threads. This way the x2 x3 and x4's will perform the same in the single threaded benchmarks, and for wprime they will be run with 2 threads (or it could be 1) so the difference in cores won't mess up the score. As for Maxxmem I believe it's single threaded as well so it should make it even more fair than it is now.

Wonderful, what s478 chip do you have?

If it was not mentioned then I presume it is safe to assume that you can enter in however many you want

So I could run a quad on some benchies and a dualie on others within the same socket bracket? Seems a little unfair with the way the contest is setup.

I got your point.. 1x CPU allowed/class unless you are doing separate runs [ie I can bench dual and Quad...but must enter all submissions for both. There will be no mix-match allowed to get the highest score]..I'll add it into the OP

I have a few 478's.. mostly 100fsb mod'd to 133, couple celly's and a 2.2ghz p4... max clocks are gonna be ~3.7ghz unless I get my mobile back from my friend.

I see what your saying about wprime.. unfortunately there arent enough submissions for me to judge how close the 2x,3x and 4x's will do against each other... By looking at hwbot records, the spread is all over the place! There are a lot of factors to benching wprime..and thread count is one of them..even running 4threads on my dual core, I can sometimes get times lower than running 2x threads.. Either way..I think it will be close enough for some good competition... you might lose 1point to someone that manages a higher wprime...better make your other entries that much 'tighter'.

*updated OP with CPU rule for comp...AMD will stay as is for now...using dual's and quads only please.

I have three as we speak, I'll let you know which ones once I am home later tonight.

I am using the Asus P4P800 Deluxe
