n00b needs a little help (3200+) :( - Page 2

post #11 of 74
Man, with that card u don't even have to OC it, it will run just fine. But about your OC problem I don't really know what's going on, what other options can you select besides "auto"? and is your HTT below 1000 Mhz? (not sure if this applies to your system, I'm still messing with this socket A thing)

Anyway if you'd have your HTT at 5 x 200 = 1000, 5 x 214 would be too much, and you'd have to change it to 4x.

surely you can run a divider on that mobo, is there a setting somewhere so you can go to manual in ya ram config, once you do that set a 333 (166) or lower divider, this will slow ya ram down, you also need to set ya ht multi to 4x, make sure ya pci is locked at 66 or 67mhz, dont worry about voltages yet, you havent got anywhere near far enough yet.

so, to maintain lets say 2.3GHz i should set my HTT multiplier to 4x and HTT to 575? will that work or will my processor melt, or sth like that ^^
and if i do that, will i need to do something with my ram?

and btw, other than [Auto] on my ram timings, i have the nubmers

set the ht mult to 4x and ya htt(fsb) to say 220 and see if it boots, just make sure youve got ya pci locked(agp frequency at 66 or 67). nothing will melt, can you set the ram on a divider yet? you need to slow ya ram down before you start to overclock properly.In your bios go to DRAM CONFIGURATION and press enter, then go to MAX MEMCLOCK and lower that to less than 200. check this out

Try these settings out, and learn your bios....make sure you know what everything does....here we go..

FSB = 240
CPU multi = x10
Vcore = 1.5
HTT = x4
Leave your memory at auto timings (since you cant change)
Use the 166 divider, it might look like 333 or 5:4
You can leave your Vdimm (memory voltage) at stock, or 2.7 to be safe.

This should get you up and running at 2.4, if not, you need to learn that bios some more and make proper adjustments.

and btw, any big risk doing this other than shorter cpu life unless i get some fancy cooling? ^^

no risks unless your temps are rediculously high (which probably wont happen), or unless you run too much voltage to your processor 1.65+volts.
Dont worry about the shortened life thing, most people say overclocking might cut the life in half, but processors are supposed to last 8-10 years, so if you plan on having that processor for 4 years, you should be fine..

i was too excited to wait so i tried ur thing, tytlyf, and i must say im impressed...better performance and 15 points more in 3dmark05 too ^^ lol j/k..

it would be nice if i could be explained what the hell i just did?
(Memory thing set to 166, HTT rate set to 4, and FSB set to 235)

EDIT: btw the first 3 times i tried to start up the IDE detect array thing crashed, but that was maybe because i tried to access the bios? im a bit scared of trying to access my bios again, but if everything goes **** ill just take my cmos out, and back in ^^
