HELP PLEASE ATI 9550 (noob)

Thread Starter
I know this card has probably been posted alot - but i actually heard from some people that once i get this card overclocked it will be amazing - i went to this site and it was not very helpful on how to do the unlock clocklock ATI put on this card because of the pipeline situation http://www.techpowerup.com/softmod/

im not really sure what to do exactly to get this card in tip top shape so if somone could tell me easy directions that i could understand, im not a simple person im just not really an overclocking guru - im use to basic tools like rivatuner stuff that does not require alot of detail, this card will not control me!

thanks in advance.

Download ATI tool. There is an option in the settings to unlock the clock lock. That is all I used.

I still have my 9550 for the time being. I use the omega drivers and the ati tool for overclocking it. Its stock at 250/400 and I run mine with original cooling at 442/442 without artifacts. Best I can get on a current title like Doom3 1280x1024 @ medium quality and only bump map and specular light on with some things like gun flash and double vision etc at 36-44 fps depending on the level and the action. To play online though I need to scale down or vid will lag a bit depending on the quality of the network data stream. On an old title like Quake3 it will pump out a solid 125 fps @1600x1200 with all options maxed but thats no great task to handle. The card though really is held up and clocking the GPU over 350 yeilds diminishing returns. The only reason I keep mine that high is cause for some reason the memory will artifact at lower settingswhen the gpu is lower. This for me was the optimal setting to get the mem that high without artifacts.

www.omegadrivers.net for the drivers if ya don t already have them. Hope that helps.

yes i think i understand - just go to the omega drivers site download the current one for ATI cards and then install the ATI tool? then it should be unlocked? correct - btw where in the ATI tool is the unlock clock lock i dont see it under SETTINGs

sorry if i seem a bit slow this is my first time getting all this stuff together.

Make sure you say yes to installing tray tools when you install. Double click the tray tool icon and it will appear in your system tray. Right click the icon in the sys tray and choose hardware>overclock settings. There you will be able to set clock speeds and save them. I have a default setting and my gaming setting. To get the clocks higher than default right click icon> tools and options> general options will allow for more overclocking. There is also the OSD section in the tools and options that will let you see on screen in game FPS so you can easily see how changes are affecting your frame rate. If your new to this start low and let the tool determine your best settings from the overclock panel. Hope that gets ya going.

Oh by the way the 9550 I have only has 4 pipelines and I m pretty sure there aren t any hidden to unlock but the OC potential on the GPU core is whackey high and I d bet a dollar that on a water cooled system it could crank over 500Mhz... but the memory would hold it back. I believe there were some made with higher quality memory but I might be wrong as mine has cheapo stuff on it.

It all depends on the card. I had a ATI Radeon 9550 before my current card and I could only get it to go up to 445/209 no ideea why but I just couldn't push it farther. I even added an 80mm case fan to it to keep it cool and it still wouldn't go higher.

Oh and yes there are 4 pipelines and only 4 pipelines.
Good enough
