Another 9600SE Question

Thread Starter
Ok I got my 9600SE up and running last night. I ended up reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling everything which is nice because I have a fresh start. Anyway my problem is that I tried to play Halo and it works great for a while. It seems to lock up after playing for about ten minutes, and the screen goes black. Is the card overheating? Or did I just get a bad card? This is very irritating

i sure wouldn't think the 9600se would overheat, but it could be the cpu/ram that's overheating. Run Prime95 and monitor the CPU temp, it shouldn't go over 55c. Also make sure that the fan on the vid card is running.

Its just a metal heatsink that covers the gpu and the memory on the top of the card. I didn't notice this happening when my other card was in my system so I doubt it is my Processor, but I will check the temps.

It could be that your card just isn't compatable with halo. Try another game, and if it still does that, your card may be deflective

I am using the drivers that came with the card. I'm assuming I should update them though. Anyway I will try it with a different game.

I had a 9600se for 1 day... I hated that card so much. It locked up in halo also. But there was nothing wrong with the card. I returned it and got a 9550 and I was much happier.

I took this card back to fry's because the first one I had didn't work properly. This one just locks up in about every video game. So I must have another faulty card right? What is wrong with this company? They can't put out one decent card? This card was definetly adequate for the level of gaming I wanted to do. I think I will just order something off newegg and wait. Grrrr I hate waiting
