Core i5 Build!

Thread Starter
My budget is $950 and my build (not including the case) is as follows:

CPU: Intel Core i5-750
Motherboard: Biostar T5 XE CFX-SLI
Memory: Corsair XMS3 1600MHz 4GB(2x2GB)
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850
Hard Drive: WD6401AALS
DVD/CD Drive: LITE-ON iHAS424-98 DVD Writer
Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650W

This build I think is quite a good bang for the buck build and also, when I get more money, I am going to add 1 more Corsair XMS3 1600MHz 4GB(2x2GB) set, a deicated sound card, a second ATI Radeon HD 5850, one or more WD6401AALS' so i can have a raid and a better cpu cooler.

I do have some questions though... What is one of the better bang for the buck sound cards on the market? What is a good Core i5-750 OC CPU Cooler? and what manufacturer do u recommend for the radeon hd 5850?

Rep will be provided!

1. You can probably get cheaper RAM that is just as good.

2. Asus Xonar cards are very nice and they have a wide range of models available from $50 all the way to $200+

3. A Thermalright Venomous X + a 120x38mm fan is the best cooling solution but it will cost you $70 for the heatsink and $20 for the fan. Noctua's NH-D14 is second best at $85 but comes with 2 fairly high quality fans. Third best is a Prolimatech Megahalem with a good fan. If you are looking for cost efficiency here there are probably better options in the $40 range like the Xigmatek Dark Knight or the Scythe MUGEN2.

4. For the 5850 I would go with a Sapphire, ASUS, MSI, or Gigabyte. Avoid XFX, they have been skimping on quality lately but they do have some nice warranties.

I'd say get a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic for the best bang for buck.

For the i5, you should either get a Prolimatech megahalem, true 120, noctua 12p or if you want to go best bang for buck again, you should get a xigmatek dark knight. All of these will give you awesoem temps (awesome as in low temps =] )

I'm not exactly sure what brand is best for the 5850. Just get a gigabyte, asus, xfx or anything with a long warranty.

Also, upgrade the 650w corsair psu to something with more power just to be on the safe side when you xfire later.

you should be set to go! Good luck!

As for the cooler: If you aren't on a budget, the Megahalems and U12P SE are both really good air coolers. The H50 (what I have) is fantastic as well and is similarly priced.

If you are on a budget, look at the CM Hyper 212 Plus.

I like Sapphire and Power Color for grpahics card companies. You will be fine with the TX650. I have that exact thing and plan on xfiring as well. If you do want more headroom though, the 750 will be plenty.
