*HELP* College Build - Page 2

Your definitely limiting your options by opting for a Micro-ATX build especially if you want a strong system to last you a while. You will find it harder to get good airflow and you have much less room for expansion and options. However, if you really don't want to crossfire it shouldn't be too much of a problem there.

In terms of AM3 boards, Gigabyte MA785G is supposed to be a nice board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128394

Alternatively the M4A785 from Asus also has AM3 support though I know nothing about it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131595

Both have PCIe x16 lanes.

*Edit Yes WC I believe will be around 130-160 for a good loop, so maybe not worth the investment. Not sure which cooler that is but make sure it isn't too tall for your case (as the new trends are seeing some giant heatsinks )

Well I looked at my current build, and i did not go with the am2/am3 like i thought i did... instead i went with an arctic cooler am2 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185125).

Also if i do go with a full atx board with something like the COOLER MASTER RC-690 with the Crosshair III... i would love to go full atx board if i found a light case

I do like this..however, ditch that CPU cooler for a Scythe Mugen 2 or Corsair H50
I would still advise in a SSD at this point, just get 2 or 4 500gb drives and RAID them.
And finally, use the money saved for a case
This is from another thread. Very good build here.

It is a nice build, however the 5850 is less of a graphics card than the 5870. And im not going ssd untill they perfect the inexpensive 250gb size. i will add the motherboard and psu to my build list... if i go atx then ill go with the Crosshair III or the GIGABYTE 790FXTA. Leaning toward the Crosshair III because i love asus boards

Just a warning to you. If you are unlucky and get the Crosshair III with an older BIOS, the board won't even post with the C3 965. There have been a few threads about this already. You would have to either borrow another AM3 chip or buy the cheapest AM3 CPU to flash the BIOS to one that supports the C3 965. Once that is done though, it is a great board. I would strongly recommend you to go ATX, it may be bigger but you will have far more options to upgrade whatever you want in the future. Especially in this case when you want this to last atleast 4 years.

Get the above build on post 13. Great build and since there will be a SSD drive for your OS, it will be wicked fast!

Then you can always upt a bigger hard drive in it later.

Looks like a good build. I personally would go for a Western Digital Caviar Black drive though. Hope you get lucky on the motherboard and get it with a BIOS that supports the C3 out of the box.
