New 955C3 build

Thread Starter
I'm a total newbie at building computers and on this forum, so bear with me. I'm not a gamer but will do some solid modeling (Pro/E) down the road. Here is my build of my system which I just put together last night (approx. $880 w/ shipping & tax). The fans are a bit noisy though as everything is on the default settings. The BIOS has been updated as well. Let me know what you folks think.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE, C3
CPU Cooling: Zalman 9900ALED
Mobo: MSI 790FX-GD70
Video Card: EVGA 01G-P3-N959TR GeForce 9500 GT
PS: Antec EA650W
Case: CM HAF922
HDD: Western Digital Cavier Blue, 500GB
DVD Drive: Samsung Lightscribe DVD-W
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB), F3-10666CL9D-4GBRL - Retail

You are going to want a better cooler if you plan on overclocking. Never mind that, I thought it was smaller than it is. But seriously, at $60 you could get something better. Like a True.

Otherwise, it looks good to me.

It's a decent build but the GPU and RAM could use a massive upgrade.

Thanks. Though performance was important, the financial portion was also a major factor (i.e. keep it within a set budget). I blame the mortgage payment, and my other expensive hobbies I may revisit those items down the road

He's buying a 9500GT and is obv on a tight budget. I don't think watercooling would fit into it haha

If I were OP I would buy an X2 550 and a better GPU like maybe a 5770 or a 5830 when they come out on the 25th, along with a different cooler such as the Mugen 2 heatsink, and a different hard drive such as a Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB.

I ended up getting the Mugen 2 Rev B today ($36 before shipping). Hopefully I can install it tomorrow. If it works out good, I'll get my refund for the Zalman I got from Fry's. Thanks for the suggestions. Now I just have to figure out if the 200mm side fan I have will have to go on the outside of the case.
