need some help getting this opteron stable at 2.8

Thread Starter
Well, ive been hearing all these good things about CABYE opterons, but mine is a cabye 0535, and its not doing what everyone elses is doing. On stock voltages, i cant get much higher than 2.4. It takes me 1.475 volts to be stable at 2.6 (260 x10), and 1.525 volts to be stable at 2.7 (270x10). From this point, i cant hit 2.8, even at 1.625 volts. Thats the highest ill even try with a suicide run because i am on air. At 1.525 my temps are already pretty high (32 - 49) and dont wanna run it much higher than that voltage-wise. I have a not so good heatsink, my zalman (the one currently in my sig) is getting installed tonight. I have good cable management, 1x120 in the front, 2x80 + system blower in rear, and 1x80 on the side. Case temp usually about 26-28. Memory timings at what i have it set now (260x10) are at 333 divider (running at about 230 MHz) and set at 3-3-3-8. You can read about my rig in below. HT is at 4 (yes i know its more than 1000 but it's stable).
When i tested my max FSB i only got up to 314. That was with a 5x multi and the ram timings at 4-4-4-14. Realllly relaxed. Is the problem in the fact that i only have an ABIT an8 mobo? Does mobo quality affect FSB max? Does it affect overclock at all? I really wanna eventually run this at 2.8 stable with decent temps. The zalman from what i read should help a lot.
Any other ideas (RAM timings, voltages, FSB/multi combos, etc.) would be appreciated.

Have you tried running your rig with your HT at 3 with less voltage into your CPU?

Good points.
You can get up to an HTT of 250 with a 4x and beyond thast 3x up to 333.
And YES, it seem most Optys OC better with less voltage when on Air cooling.

I have a 148 also, and I will shoot you some numbers to get you stable around 2.8. It's VERY important to find the maximum speed your memory will run....here we go..This setting will have your memory running at default speed (200)...for testing

255 x 11
HTT x 4
vcore 1.50
Mem divider 166 (233)

Leave memory default or whatever you had it to run 230.

NOTE... vocre is not excessive ... further substantiating my claims 939 Optys don't necessarly need excessive voltage!

well, i recommended that voltage because that should be plenty for that speed, I need 1.5 for 2.9..I feel something else is going on here with his system if that doesn't work.

I think you can get away with something in the range of 1.4-1.5 at that speed. I've seen it done on the forum, so it is possible.

It looks like your running your ram too fast, when your working on finding a max cpu oc, use an insane memory divider, like 133 or 100, then when youve got a good cpu oc start playing with memory. If your trying to operate both at their max when your looking for your oc your going to run into a lot of problems.

The numbers I recommended are to rule out his ram and keep it running around default DDR400. I'm anxious to see how it works out. After this, it's time to find max memory OC.
