Yup it is.

Save $20 and go with the G.Skills.

Doing DDR600

Doing DDR580

Doing DDR580 Again

Lisen to trans and your life will be better

Get the Blue G.Skill Extreme sticks, the PC-3200.. They will go farther than the Black PC-4000 Sticks. 300+ FSB is a tall order for 2Gigs in general.

This is true, but 275fsb is a tall order for 3200 sticks as well. for that pc4000 its within range. My OCZ 3200 ram which has timings of 2-3-2-5 or sometimes 2-2-2-5, will only run 220 fsb before I need a divider. I dont want that.

here's my logic: the two types of ram are the same price. (actually, all of them are now, zipzoomfly offers a $20 rebate on the mushkin stuff now) so price doesnt matter.

now, I can get pc3200, where im guaranteed 200mhz, and it could overclock to 275 theoretically.
or, i could get pc4000, where im guaranteed 250mhz, and it could overclock to 300 theoretically.

but the thing about the pc3200, is that 275 is very unlikely. if it only runs 200fsb, you're stuck. id rather go with safety and get the pc4000

again, pc3200 stuff. i looked at the reviews, in which everyone stated that they got great tight timings from it. nobody said anything about overclocking. not to mention its $70 more than the other ram.. does it overclock at all? if it can hit 300 fsb i might be willing to pay $270

.......its rated at pc3200....of course it will overclock. i have pc3200 corsair ram and right now its running at ddr600!! the numbers mean nothing when you loosen the timings and pump some juice to it.

i can see your point, how it could get up that high, but im just not willing to take the risk of buying ram thats close enough to mine, and having it overclock like mine currently does. it will run 2-2-2-5, but it will only run 20 or so mhz overclock when loosened to 3-4-4-8 and theres 2.9v going through it

ok, let me put this an easy way....i'll post screenies of it later. keep in mind that this is w/ 1 gb instead of two.

i have tested 2-2-2-5 1t @ 200, 2-2-2-5 1t @ 215, then 2.5-4-4-8 2t @ 300 (yes thats a big jump, but i'm trying to make time to compare in the middle). a pretty big performance gain. you get more of a performance gain by running looser timings at higher clockspeeds than you would running a bit lower speed w/ tighter timings.

EDIT
-------------
and technically, its not what brand makes it, its what chip you get. i have TCCD which is leetsauce for lower voltages and really high LDT/FSB/HTT. Corsair rates it at ddr400 @ 2-2-2-5, but Samsung rates it at DDR500 at looser timings, i think like 2.5-3-3-6 or something along those lines. i've hit DDR600 just on a bit looser than that, and i plan on going up to 700 if i can.

and you won't find TCCD in 2 gb chips....

right, i know how ram works, but like you're saying, my ram will run 2-2-2-5 1t @200, but will s*it the bed if its run 3-4-4-8 2t @ 225.

and ill take alook if you get some screenshots.

ther'es no sense in running your memory at 3-4-4-8 2t @ only 225. that should still be able to get really low timings, like effin 2-3-2-5 1t. i got 1t all the way up to ddr520 running 1:1 at 260 HTT.
