The 3800+ will have 2x512 cache
The Opty on the other hand will have 2x1024

OH... because of the extra cache... the 170 with 2x the cache would be an a much better purcase being they both have a 10x...
The 165 on the other hand uses a 9x

Doesnt that sentence alone just answer EVERYTHING asked? but JUST IN CASE, let me break it down

Model is "170" (Opteron 170) and it has "2x" (twice as much) cache.

"much better purchase" pretty much gives aways which one you should get....What more would you like to know?

Ahhh...
That is a trick question
The new steppings in the single core Venus and there ability to OC are just comming to light. On the X2s Denmark ...I have no idea!
They do tend to OC as well as the Toledo.
Regardless of the OC I'd lean to the 170 Denmark because the 10x is a bit more versitle over the 165's 9x. The extra cache does in effect increase productivity over a equvilant X2 with 1/2 the cache so ... even if it (the 170) OCed slightly lower than an equally rated X2 Toledo, it wouldn't necessarly be less productive.

I think he was asking about the X2 vs a single core opteron...
In either case, we need to know what you are going to use the cpu for.

I think the only upgrade worth your money and time is to the x2 or the dual core opteron. you already have a not to bad of a single core processor. I don't see the point of going to another single core.

i vote for the Opteron 170
