Sounds like its running the unicore client tho; in the advanced tab i believe, there should be a line for extra parameters, add (without quotes) -smp" to get the most out of your cpu, if you haven't already(2500k I'm assuming), and "-verbosity 9" for a more informative log so if you need assistance with a problem it would be easier for us to help you troubleshoot, and restart the client.
Also be sure to add the OCN team number to the team field (37726), and a folding name for yourself, also get a passkey from here - this will enable you to get bonus points once you finish ten smp WUs.
Welcome to the team, hope you stick around for a while. thumb.gif

when i put -smp into the advanced tab it doesn't start working...it just says loading then closes...

Figured I'd post here. Not sure I want to get into folding but I'd figure I'd try it out. It looks cool...
Not sure if this looks right or not...Maybe someone could help me out.

So that's it? I scroll over the F@H icon on the bottom and it says "CPU - F@H - Working (0/250)"
My CPU usage is about 25% right now with 1 work unit...or at least I think that's what it is...
Any help would be greatly appreciated
.

As far as anything goes, you're doing it perfectly! I'm not sure what you're looking for here, to get more efficiency ( and thus points) out of your computer? If so, then I'd suggest running it in a Virtual Machine (VM) by using either:

- VMWare (Instructions and links - http://linuxforge.net/docs/crunching/fah-vmware.php)
or
- VirtualBox (Instructions and links - http://linuxforge.net/docs/crunching/fah-virtualbox.php)

It's actually really easy, you can follow http://www.overclock.net/t/1259412/win-7-how-to-get-140k-plus-ppd-from-your-overclocked-3930k-on-windows-7 for the VM setup process, and just change any of the 12-core parts to 4 cores (for your 2500k).

Here's hoping it helps, if you've anymore questions feel free to ask!

Hmm, odd.
Ok, if you can still open the configuration settings just remove the smp part. If it closes from the tray before you can then, navigate to C:\Users\YourUsername\appdata\Roaming\Folding@home-x86 and open the client.cfg file in notepad. Find this line "extra_parms=-smp" and remove the -smp part.

Not sure where to find the client im using. I have the OCN team code entered and my username. However, when I go to overclockers to find my stats I get Zodac as my name...do I have to apply to get my own name. lol I'm so new at this.

So the F@H download that I have, that seems to be just 1 work unit. It seems my CPU usage is around 25%. So do I just copy the folder and run the program again?

I'll figure it out in a few days hopefully. I'm at work so I just let the folding worker run...I think thats right

Yup! I'm still trying to decide how I want to do this folding thing. I don't know if I want to do a full 5days a week and if I do, if I want to fold on GPU and CPU. Right now my 580 has quite a coil whine when folding. So I'm a little leary of the noise. I'm folding today on my CPU and GPU. Lastnight I got queued up for some reason so I'm looking to find out what's the best way to do things. Anyhow, I probably won't win any prizes but at least I'll be doin somethin. Better than nothin.

Fold a lot. Fold a little. Whatever you're comfortable with, every little bit counts. I used to fold 24/7 on 3 computers cpu & gpu, but now I'm just on my 2600k 24/7 for the team competition(part time atm).
Are you sure its the gpu? could be the psu. I know my power supply screams when I OC my 570 over 850Mhz, over 900 the pitch thankfully becomes kinda inaudible with the voltage at 1.08v (yay for going deaf!!).
Bit of whine is normal, tho if its really loud and obnoxious it could be problematic/defective(may want to make a thread in the main folding forum if you're concerned about it - more likely to be seen in there than here), long as you have sufficient cooling it should be fine.

Its the 580. The PSU is brand new. Rosewill 750 HIVE series. It's a champ of a PSU. In GPUz I show when folding my 12v drops down to 11.91V which is fine. I only half overclock my GPU when folding. I feel safe @ 1.050V @ 820Mhz core. When I game its 1.150V @ 920Mhz. I get the whine only when I fold on the GPU. If I fold on the CPU I don't hear it and it doesn't get worse when I fold on both so I know its not the PSU. The GPU is cooled with the antec 620 mod. I've got extra heatsinks glued to the PCB plate with the stock blower fan on a custom fan profile and the GPU core doesn't hit anything past 50C when folding. When I left this morning it tops out @ 48C. The PCB below the VRM's is a toasty 55C however, but I still think there's sufficient cooling there. Its only when I fold that I get the noise...
