Team MHz Masters (on a break) - Page 17

Keep up the good work guys. I'm currently pulling slow Gromacs units that are taking forever and aren't worth very many points.

Anyway, if the WUs stay good, it should be a really good month for me. By February, I should have everything all settled.
Sweeeeeet!

You are going to be in the single digits very soon.

I hear that! You are still putting out about a third more points than I am. I need a Conroe!

I thought I read something about a big price drop coming, hopefully soon!

Today was an insane folding day for me - nearly 2600 points on 7 WUs. All three of my cores got a hold of 149X WUs and really chewed through them. My luck ran out, though, as all three are now running slower WUs. I'll put up a whopping 0 points tomorrow. I have about 800 points slated for Friday with another 400 coming on Saturday. Hopefully I'll pick up some more lucrative ones once these clear the queue.

I should dip back into the top 10 for a while this time. My last stint there was only for a week or two before I got passed. Depending on how JeffMace's production goes, I may hit as high as 8th before he passes me. Still, I should stick around there for a while. Not too shabby with only three cores going under my main name.

With the new Conroe up and me being in the office for a change, I have two cores going for Team_MHz_Masters for the first time in a while.

You are really cranking now Taeric!

At this rate, you will have over 30,000 points by yourself this month! You need to add one core per member to the team competition making it 4 max / 12 per team total. The limit is holding you back from fame!

I've been adding WU's to Team_MHz_Masters from the start. A few 600 pointers at first but now getting these low point and slow ones. I will be making some changes with my tax return in the next month or two. Just not sure which way to go yet.

I'm posting the following information in every team thread:

I wanted to thank everyone who has been actively participating in the folding team competition. This is the twelfth month of the competition, and it has grown to include 25 teams and numerous individuals. There are a few issues I wanted to share with each team, and the best way to do that was to post the info in each team thread so no team was left out.
  1. There are many teams that do not have four active folders. Inactive folders will be removed from the teams at the end of this month, and teams that do not have any active folders will be removed as well. If your team is in danger of either of these things happening, I will post more info below. Please remember this competition requires active participation. While it is perfectly acceptable to not be a high powered folder, each team member must actively fold. There is not a problem with a member taking a short term break from folding for any reason (computer problems, vacations, personal problems, etc.) If one of your team members is going to be inactive for a while, please PM me to let me know. If the absence is going to be long term, please find a replacement.
  2. Team members who are using the GPU or SMP clients must be identified in the first post of a team's thread. As this competition was meant to give the small time folders a chance to compete, the role of these highly efficient clients needs additional attention. Please remember to count each of the cores that folding is working on when figuring out your team's CPUs breakdown. If a SMP client is running on a dual core system, it counts as two, regardless of how Stanford counts it. The GPU client also needs to count in the mix even if Stanford doesn't show it as an active CPU. The total number of cores is still limited to 8 per team and 3 per person.
Info for this team only:

I'm posting it everywhere else, so I might as well post it in my team thread, too.

Hey fellas, just thought id drop in and say hi.

Sorry i havnt been getting too many points lately, ive been playin a fantasy golf game called albatross18 and it wont let me fold while i play it. And then when im actually folding, im always getting 20000 or 50000 frame WU's that take ages to complete

Unfortunatly i dont have anywhere near enough money to get my new pc yet, i was thinking of getting a new Conroe motherboard, GFX and RAM, but i didnt know if i could use my current CPU(which is socket 775)in the conroe mobo.

But with that said, id still need anout another 400-500 dollars just to pay for the RAM, mobo and GFX.

So i think that's about all the news and stuff i got for ya's, and btw taeric, nice job on all your new CPU's and other gizmos your buying. How bout swinging some of that cash my way

Howdy, gill. Yes, any board that runs a Conroe should run your P4 just fine. As you wrote, you would have to upgrade your GPU and RAM, but you could take your time and save up for a new CPU. I would suggest that you upgrade your PSU as well, especially if you're going to have a good video card and are going to overclock your system. I know that probably pushes back your upgrade even further, but a good PSU is critical on a higher end system.

As for funding all of my recent upgrades, a portion of the money has come from selling off my other systems and some of it has come from working a lot of overtime. I think I'm done with upgrades for the near future, but I'm starting to save up for a nice DX10 GPU. One of those with my current gear should carry me through for a long time.

My X6800 is due to arrive on Thursday, and I'm going to get it up and running on my P5W. I'll probably eventually swap the X6800 over to the P5B and run the E6600 on the P5W as that is likely give better performance due to the NB strap issues. Knowing me, though, I'll probably get lazy and never get around to doing it, especially since the CPUs will stay matched with their respective WC systems, so I'll need to swap out mobos. Wish me luck on OCing the X6800. I hope I can get a really impressive OC on it since it was a hefty investment.

On the folding front, I jumped on the SMP bandwagon yesterday. I had some trouble getting Ubuntu to install (it stalled out twice on me), but once I got it installed, it was a minimal effort to get it folding. It appears that they renewed the beta of the SMP client, so it should be around for a while longer.

Well guys, todays the day i reformat my PC.
Im not sure if i will continue folding straight away, im just interested to see if i get any performance boost or anything from not having my CPU maxed all the time.

So im afraid you will probably just have to drop me from the team

It was good fighting this valliant folding battle, with you guys, my fellow warrior brothers.

gill-out

p.s i dunno why i did that little warrior bit...dont take note of it if it is too weird

Thanks for folding with us, gill. Good luck with your future pursuits.

If you start folding again, keep our team and the site's team in mind.
