Team MHz Masters (on a break) - Page 7

Thread Starter
It's probably a toss up whether to keep the >5 MB and shut down folding when gaming, or disable the >5 MB and leave folding running all of the time. Depending on how often you game, it may be a wash. The big WUs do typically take 250-300 MB RAM, and that's definitely a killer on a machine with 512 MB. I used to play Far Cry on my main rig (with 1 GB) while folding, and it handled things pretty well.

Gill have you tried running a good startup program? you can go to <www.majorgeeks.com> and download software freeware shareware etc... for about any needs you can think of.

Ram cleaner
Registry cleaner
Startup checker
Task mgr helpers
Cashe cleaners
etc...

You may know of these sites already and simply have peeked on your allocations for running programs. Time to get HT cpu or more ram?

you can turn down the settings in the folding draw rate and the cpu utilization which dramatically lowers memory consumption as well. without disabling the 5mb fold box?

For the most part I dont play games much but my family lives for them so I find ways to keep there machines going. You may have hidden prgrams lagging around you never knew about until you cover all bases concerning your memory and its applications.

If you were aware of my advice please disregard it, getting late and I cant hardly keep my eyes open...

Hello Gill just check'n in on our thread,

Have you checked your startup program files to see if you need to have everthing thats there at startup. This can be a big memory grabber. I only run Windows, virus, firewall, spybot, and a few minor misc programs at startup. NO GAMES you can run them when needed. There are several free startup programs at majorgeeks.com I use 2 of them (startuplist 2.0 & startupCPL) by reducing the number of running programs you can gain back MB's. Give it a try and let us know how it works out. I can run WIN 2k Pro 2 hardrives and virus etc..plus fold maxed out 24/7 and average 314,000mb mem usage. I wish I could see a list of your running programs, startup programs etc... if this doesn't help considerably maybe you could post some specs and stats of your PC so others can give you a hand as well,
Good Luck
