Finally completed my kid's upgrade

Thread Starter
I've been picking away at my daughter's case for a couple of months.

First I changed the case (after painting the interior black). I added high blue acrylic feet (it sits on carpet) and added 3 blue LED case fans (all by Coolermaster). I also removed the back plates and put in black mesh ones (spares from another case).

Then I changed the cpu from an E7400 to a Q9400, (running at 3.6ghz)

Changed the motherboard for an EP45 UD3L to an EP45-UD3P Rev 1.6

Changed the mushkin ram (a pair of 2 GB PC2-6400) to a set of G.Skill NQ series PC2-8500

Changed the Sapphire 4830 to a Sapphire 4850 (yes I know not a big difference but i got the 4850 for what I sold the 4830)

Finally, tonight I decided on the proper power supply. I went with an Enermax Liberty ECO 82+ rated 500W power supply. Considered one of the best 500w range power supplies available, it is also modular (which was a requirement). It also has an 8 Pin 12v connector (the prior power supply, an OCZ piece of junk, only had a 4 pin...).

I also got her Win7 64 Home Premium this week as well.

I had to put in a PCI NIC. I ran the win7 update and it foosed the onboard nic drivers completely After 3 days of screwing with it, I realized I would have to reload win7 to fix it. So I threw in an PCI NIC and its all good again.

I think I'm about done upgrading her system for awhile (exept I may grab a WD 1 TB drive and swap out the 250. She hasn;t come close to filling it but I expect a 13 year old will find a way).

Full specs:

CPU: Q9400 (overclocked to 3.6 ghz)
MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE EP45-UD3P REV. 1.6
RAM: G.SKILL NQ Series DDR2 1066MHz (PC2-8500) (2x2GB) (F2-8500CL6D-4GBNQ)
HARD DRIVE: WESTERN DIGITAL 250GB AAKS 16 MB
VIDEO CARD: SAPPHIRE HD4850
OPTICAL:LG GH22LS30 Black 22X SATA Lightscribe
CASE: COOLERMASTER ELITE 310
ADDED CASE FANS: 3 X COOLERMASTER 120MM BLUE LED
POWER SUPPLY: ENERMAX LIBERTY ECO 500W
CPU COOLER: THERMALRIGHT ULTIMA 90i
CPU FAN:THERMALTAKE SMART FAN 90MM BLUE LED
CARD READER: BYTECC 3.5" BLACK
KEYBOARD: OCZ ILLUMINATI
MOUSE: LOGITECH M-UAE96
MONITOR: SAMSUNG 226BW
SOUND CARD: SB AUDIGY 2 ZS
SPEAKERS: CREATIVE I-TRIGUE 3400 2.1
WEBCAM: LOGITECH ULTRA VISION
MOUSE PAD: 3M PRECISE MOUSING SURFACE
PRINTER: CANON IP2000 Printer
OS: WIN 7 64 HOME PREMIUM
NIC: BELKIN PCI NIC F5D5000

So what else should I do to it?

(For those that are sharp eyed, the 6 pin PCI power connector is not on the 4850, took pics before I threw it in).

Wow, that's your daughter's machine? What's she do with it that it needs a 4850 and a Q9400?

That's a pretty awesome computer. Should run Windows 7's 3D-accelerated Solitaire quite well, and maybe some Crysis once in a while

When I was 13, I was using a 100MHz Cyrix 6x86, 16MB of RAM, and a 1GB HDD... and this was in 2005, haha.
