X850 Pro ---> X850xt Pe (flashed)

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
im planning on flashing my x850 pro, to an x850 xt pe. I was just wondering, what cooling do you recommend. I have a ****ty case (hp pavilion case) and only 1 rear exhaust fan. Im looking at the ati silencer (artic cooling), or the zalman copper one. I dont want my video card to snap, because of the weight of the zalman, so im sort of confused. Could someone tell me what they suggest. I was looking at the artic cooling because it exhausts the hot air...but....zalman cools better...should i just use another pci slot cooler with the zalman to exhaust air, or blow air in. please help a somewhat noob out. Thanks

the zalman wont snap your card and from what ive heard will ikely give slightly better temps. it is also universal so you could use it on other cards whereas the ati is only good for a few.

air exhaust is probably slightly overated in this case, it really raises the ambient temps a bit. i would say cool your card better and worry about ambient temps with something else.

You really can't go wrong with either. I personally have the silencer and I like it since it exhausts the hot air outside of the case instead of just blowing it around inside.

Right now, my card is idling at 34c and the max so far (running Need for Speed Most Wanted) is 49.3c. I'm probably only getting these temps cause I run my fan at 100% all the time.

Those temps are slightly better than what mine were with my x850 XTPE with my Zalman. What is your case temp?

Case temps that were being reported were in the 30s if I remember right. I'm running some tests on that rig now so I can't be positive of it. It is relatively cool out here at the moment, but, the room my rig is in is slightly hotter than the others.

The Ram Sinks are okay that come with it. They come with thermal tape, so just clean your memory chips and then stick them on
