Athlon 3000+ Venice OC

Thread Starter
How many of you have OCed this core with stock cooling? How far can you get it? I know a fellow forumer got from 1.8 GHz to 2.6 GHz (an 850 MHz jump, really) with water cooling. The idea is wicked, that a $140 CPU can function on a performance level just shy of a 4.0 GHz Pentium!*

*:
2.6 GHz x 9 = 23.4
23.4 / 6 = 3.9 GHz

this might be irrelevent but my brother has the same CPU but it is a winchester core. on stock cooling i am running it at 2.2 ghz, 245 FSB with the ram also running at 245. stable in prime95 for 8+ hours. his load temps before were 38C and now 42C i believe. Depending on Temps, i think 50 is pushing it? not postive, but you should be able to get to 2.2 maybe higher. I upped his Vcore 3.3% for 2.2, it was stable at 2.4 with 6.6% more vcore but the temps were 50+ load so i decided to stick with 2.2GHZ on the stock cooling.

Hope that helps a little, goodluck with it, watch your temps and dont give too much Vcore you should be fine, use prime95 blend to test it, and to test memory (prime95 tests it as well) use memtest86. you can use this to test it alone to make sure it isnt causing failures. When you OC the ram or the CPU or both will be unstable, doing a stand alone mem test like that will let you know if the Ram can take the speeds, if not, loosen your ram timings and up the volts

PS-i havent ever seen that multiplication you used, thats pretty cool!

If you look around there are a lot of people who get around that much. Although I don't see a lot of results with stock cooling. But I'd say that 2.6ghz is easily attainable with air cooling let alone water cooling.

Well right now im at 2.47 ghz tried 2.5 with an xp 120 so far i've seen people go with 3.0ghz take tuchan and krunk_kracker for example. im sure with the right mobo and right ram tweaking u can get there too. and yes 3000+ is the best cpu for under 200 bucks.

yea, most people get 2.6 on air. However, i can only get 2.35 with my winchester because i cant get any more volts for my chipset. Which im reasonably sure is what is holding me back.

surely you can get more than that out of your winnie, i got 2800 with water, and 2700 on air. that was with high vcore and very hot (which doesnt help at all)
