2.6 here on stock cooling guys with absolutely no problems.

How does the MOBO limit you through voltage, exactly? Sorry, I'm still grasping the basics of OCing, but I'm loving the idea more and more every day.

Air cooling is difference from stock? I know stock cooling just uses the fans that come inside the case, along with the thermal pad or paste on your CPU, right?

So is air cooling very expensive to set up? I'd really love to OC from 1.8 to 2.6 or so, while running stable, but I want it to last me about four years or so.

With that mobo an o/c of 2.6ghz should be quite easily reached. Stock cooling is the HSF that came with your cpu .A good aftermarket HSF from Zalman or Thermalright will help your cause no end

Listen to tuchan he helped me get a pretty good OC.

Air, i believe, is the same as using the fans that you will find on the coolers just a different term and is the cheapest way of cooling. I wouldnt worry too much about water cooling until you have grapsed everything about air cooling.

My 3000 is running at just over 2.5 gig which is all i want out of it. you may be pushing it at the moment to get 2.6 (mine went to 2.7 but was unstable ie didnt run the stress test programmes for any amount of time.) but it certainly isnt impossible on air.

Before you start you will need to download the following stress testing programmes to see if your oc is stable and wont burger up your components.

Superpi
prime95
memtest

just google them (sorry no links because my work pc wont let me there!)

Remember though there is a risk you can fry components when you start messing with the volts but to be honest its very unlikely just listen to what the guys say. Just be advised though.

I don't actually have the system yet. I'll link to my proposed build, which has my MOBO. Just sub in a Venice 3000+ Athlon for the card I have listed.

The card I have linked on this thread is better as stock, but I was told to go Venice 3000+ 'cause it can be OCed much better:

Patrice, let's try 2.4ghz first, then move up from there....input these numbers

FSB = 267
CPU multi = 9
Vcore = 1.45v
HTT x 4
Mem divider 166 (333) 5:4
Vdimm (memory voltage) 2.7

These settings will let your memory run at 217mhz, which might not work (you dont have any system specs). But its worth a try and it wont hurt a thing.

I don't have the parts yet, I can't select those settings. The link in the above post I made is to my proposed build. All the specs are there.
