Quote:
Natural Selection 2 is an immersive, online FPS that pits aliens against humans in a strategic and action-packed struggle for survival by mixing first-person shooter and real-time strategy gameplay elements. NS2 is the stand-alone sequel to the popular modification which garnered more than 2 million downloads

Features

Two Unique Sides
Whether you play as one of the elite marine Frontiersmen or the vicious alien Kharaa, you must use unique strategies and your abilities to win. Marines form persistent squads to find and destroy alien hives. Aliens can choose a wall-running Skulk, pudgy Gorge, flying Lerk, murderous Fade or gigantic Onos that can smash through doors.

Real-time Strategy
Commanders play from overhead to lead their team to victory. Build structures anywhere, collect resources and research upgrades. Marines buy weapons at an Armory or build sentry turrets and siege cannons to assault the enemy. Aliens build upgrade chambers, evolve special abilities and plant traps.

Dynamic Environments
Spreading alien infestation deforms hallways and causes space station power failure, turning off lights and shutting down marine powered structures. Use a flamethrower to clear infestation or weld a bulkhead shut for a last defense. Every game is different.

Unlimited Variations
WYSIWYG graphical tools and powerful scripting allow you to create new weapons, scenarios or entirely new games. You'll get all our tools and Lua source code we're using to build NS2. Ongoing automatic updates keep the game fresh by adding new maps, weapons and abilities.

Modding
Without modding, there would have been no Natural Selection, so we're dedicated to providing the community with the most powerful and easy-to-use modding tools possible. We're shipping all our content tools we are using to build Natural Selection 2 along with the game. This includes our level editor, model viewer, cinematic editor. Furthermore, because we are writing 100% of our game in Lua script, you'll be able to add your own weapons, gameplay modes and entirely new games with relative ease. Everyone that buys the game will get the same tools we used to build the game. We're even shipping our commercial script debugger and our own gameplay code with the game. So we expect NS2 to be the most modded game ever!

Facts

NS2 will be released on steam and will most likely have full Steamworks support.

There are two versions of the game available for pre-order. The standard and special edition. In addition to the game the standard edition provides Beta and mod tools access. The special edition includes first access to Alpha, Beta and mod tools plus special all black marine armor whenever you play online.

Natural Selection 2 is a sequel to the popular award winning Half-Life mod Natural Selection, created in 2002.

Natural Selection 2's Spark SDK has already been released to pre-order customers

NS2 uses Unknown World Entertainments own proprietary engine, build from the ground up.

I bought this with overgrowth in that deal they had on a few days ago.

By the way: the pre-alpha is out already, it's basically just a level editor so far. I've been meaning to download it, looks like they've built themselves a good little engine.

You need a key to use it, so don't bother dl'ing unless you've preordered already.

That first video reminded me of Doom 3 until that big monster thing popped out.

I never heard of this. Look interesting.

Will it be MP only or is it SP?

Last video =

YES. This kinda stuff is what I want from developers. Not just technical lighting, but good artistic sense. Like Source. Some of the best looking lighting for a long long time, even though it wasn't the most technically advanced.

Self shadowing looked good and their "color grading," though I don't know what that was, really, really enhanced the look.

I used to really like the original game and played it from when it was first released. However, when they started completely changing the way it played I didn't like the new directions or changes.

I hope this game is more akin to the originals play-style, just hope they thoroughly balance it off the bat this time.

I can't freakin' wait. NS was my favorite HL mod (played it more than CS) and it was a blast. The combination of RTS aspects and the fact that the two sides were VERY DIFFERENT (instead of the usual 'different skin, same stats' that most games take - if there's any distinction at all) made it very interesting, IMO.
