Should I upgrade?

post #1 of 7

Need a little advice, I know my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu. Would a socket 939 with a 3500+ really be worth the upgrade. My current motherboard has 4 ram slots on dual channel. I just don't want to spend that much unless I'm gonna see REAL performance increases because I only have about $500 in my current build.
mb $40
cpu $90
ram $80
hd $80
ps $40
gpu $180
thinking about this board
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...301&CatId=1746
and this cpu
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=1366613

But as you can see this will almost DOUBLE the total cost of my build. Is it worth the money?

current system nets:
aquamark3=56,000
3dmark03=9,992
3dmark05=4,086

or should I stick with what I've got? These scores are ok for a 510 dollar build? Anyone have the vanilla 6800 on a newer board?

Stick with what you got.
Save up some money, The only upgrade worth going for is a Dual Core and an SLi board. Just save your money and shoot for Dual Core

I miss counter strike, won style, on me gateway 433mhz celeron. I had 128 m/b's of ram, THAT'S RIGHT 128, with a voodoo3 overclocked. That **** was pimp on my smokin fast 56k modem.
