100% CPU usage, might OC help? - Page 3

Having 100 different adware, spyware, and virus cleaners is not good. Stick with Microsoft Antispyware, CCleaner, and maybe a Virus scanner. The virus scanner is not neccesary because Microsoft Antispyware scans for virus's in real time.

You processor is powerful enough to play games. You can overclock it about 600Mhz on air cooling. I use to have a Northwood 2.4Ghz that I got up to 3.2Ghz stable. They are great ocing processors (and you motherboard is good.) Just go into BIOS and up the frequency a little at a time. Check your temps (use Prime95 to stress test) try to keep them under 65C load for the Norty.

its 55C for the northwood... just dont want him to fry his CPU. get yourself a big typhoon. i have one as well as 2 120mm fans and 1 80mm side case fan and my temps have NEVER gone above 30 celcius under full load while running prime 95.

i have the same board as you. before i oc'ed i would get 100% useage when using dvd shrink to shrink dvd's. now its at like 50% at the most, but never 100. it used to make my computer go all the way up to 42C with the stock HSF. now it doesnt even flinch. im stuck at 2.8, working on getting a 3.0 and going to try for 3.8
