If intel gives a better performance with a slight up in cost then why not go with intel? If the performance justify the cost?
I didn't say intel was overpriced... I also said if he wanted to he could downgrade his other components and go with an intel ix series...

What do you mean downgrade?

the i5-661 is 196$
i5-750 is also 196$(performs better than the x4 965 BE)

and the motherboads are practically in the same price range.

Touche. Haven't checked the prices of the i series lately. You know a bit ago they were redonculous.

Anyhoo his budget is $1k max. But if he can dish out a little more for the i series I would say go for it.

Thread Starter
Thanks for all the replies! I am planning on overclocking, but I am new so I'm not going to try and get the insane speeds that you guys get . I also have never overclocked a video card before, is that just as easy and safe? I never thought of doing raid 0 but it seems like a very good idea!

As far as AMD/Intel, that kind of refers to my optimum upgrade question. I am planning on this computer lasting me a few years before an upgrade or new system. So if in a few years all I would need is an upgrade, AMD makes more sense because the chip set won't change.

However with the last system I built by the time I needed an upgrade, ram changed from DDR to DDR3, video cards changed from AGP to PCI-E x 16, socket from 939 to AM2+/AM3 so it was impossible to upgrade without replacing almost everything! Because I fear the same will happen again, I would consider an i5 if it can stay close to the same price.

I have heard a lot of mixed things about crossfire but I still think it comes down to when I need an upgrade. Would it be better to xfire (with a hopefully still available cheap compatible card) or upgrade the card completely?

yea thats why amd is half price for almost same performace its proven against i7 920 vs x4 965 be

Hey check out my build thread its very similar to yours (same case, same cpu, same cooler)

I'd be interested to know what you get your overclock to... I only got to 3.6Ghz before I hit temp limits (holding at 53 C). Although I'm pretty sure I did a piss poor job with the arctic silver 5.
