i am looking at getting 2Gb of Ram that will be useful in future rig.
ie. dual core AMD/pci-e dual GPu etc.
but for now don't want to spend too much on this rig.
More RAM should help with load times and lag/stutters, but it won't allow you to use higher graphics settings.

no i wouldn't expect any better graphics, but if the gameplay was smoother i could live with it.
its annoying when ur trying to shoot somebody and the game is jerking about or freezing/stuttering.
the only drawbacks with the low graphics settings are really the viewing distance and the opposing forces troops look like black silhouettes, not enough detail to see who's who sometimes.
