Im fixing to pick up a 9800gt for a physx card, but i see that the list of games is pretty small. Any new ones planned, or is physx pretty much dead?

Physx is just a gimmick. It's not dead (unfortunately), and the only reason physx runs faster on a GPU than CPU is because nvidia owns it, and in order to sell more GPUs, they've crippled performance on CPU. There are very few titles that make any use of it, even fewer that make good use of it, and the effects are graphics-only, and do not affect gameplaay in any way. From what I've heard, Batman AA makes the best use of it so far, but honestly, I can't wait for the gimmicky, skin-deep, proprietary physx to just go off in a dark corner to die.

edit: by the way, you can run physx on the same card as your display. There is no need for you to have a dedicated physx GPU unless you find enabling physx noticeably decreases your performance.

how is it growing? The games list has been the same for like a year? Is there a place showing planned new releases?

Mirror's Edge, Batman: AA, Sacred 2 in the last year. Now that it has the support from Nvidia more dev teams are making games that involve PhsyX. Dark Void, and at least 2 others (can't remember names) are coming out soon and they support PhysX.

However, DX11 might have crushed PhsyX. Just to early to tell.

Personally, I wish PhsyX would go away.. or ATI needs to be able to support it. Only then will dev teams actally take it seriously.

Sounds like unwarranted HATE. Just bc you buy a card with less features doesnt mean you should hate on the other guy. If anything you should hate yourself and or card.

Physx is going to get better . Youtube has some pretty impresive demos of what PhysX can do to the video game world. Maybe one day ATI will wise up and get back in on physx. Bet they mildy regret dropping the idea.

I don't think it was a gimmick. It WAS a good idea, however, from a marketing point of view, it was something quite hard to sell. People just weren't prepared to fork out for an extra GPU for PhysX. Even if high end users such as your average OCNer were going to use them, I would say that amount of people is but a fraction of the industry. Most normal computer users, and those who play the odd game on them, would not be interested in buying seemingly useless extra parts. Their purpose is not something you can fit on to an quick advertisement like a normal GFX card or whatever.

I would also like to see some evidence on the statement "They've crippled performance on the CPU". That just doesn't make sense to me. You may be right, I haven't seen any articles, but why would nVidia do this to their cards when 99% of people would be comparing cards, not an ATi card VS nVidia card and tag along PhysX Card.

I'm not being a fanboi at all, just trying to get all the facts!

The PhysX tech isn't that bad anyway really, It'd be nice if it were supported more. Lots of people have leftover 8xxx + cards they could use in their system rather than gathering dust in the cupboard. I have an 8000GT, but even if I had an SLI board, I probably wouldn't waste my time.
