can i make it go any faster? atm its at 197mhz i set it to 200mhz FSB and it crashed. would it be lack of power? or what

Not sure you'll be able to get it ANY higher in the FSB department unless the A7N8X Motherboard can take more than 333mhz fsb.

Personally with the A7V8X motherboard (same series), it has a FSB of 333mhz max on the MOTHERBOARD (because of the way 32bit processors work with the North and Southbridge chipsets on the motherboard regulating memory speed). If your board is 400mhz then cutting out the ddr333 will increase your speeds and allow you to hit higher fsb's. Currently that 333 is bottlenecking your DDR400.

But You can work with that multiplier... Currently I'm at 2.172ghz on my AMD Athlon XP2400+ with zero problems... 167mhz x 13. With the new cooler I bought and the right voltage I know my core can hit over 2.5ghz... Any fsb on my board over 167 is unstable, but 167 x 15 is fully stable, and I'm wondering if with the new cooler I can go higher... my motherboard allows multi's up to 22.5!!! LOL!

That's tonight's venture as my Thermaltake Big Typhoon and 100cfm fan just showed up today.

Barton core? I can hit 2.2 ghz cake, with stock air. Take out the 333 ram and you should be able to hit 2.2 WITH NO VCORE INCREASE. If you take out the 333 and decide to run faster than 200mhz fsb with dividers and more vcore don't forget to set the cpu alarm in bios (if you have one) at 80c. If the alarm goes off yank the power cord from the back of your rig. Not sure about your chip, but mine, (barton core) ran at 58c idle upto 70c at times with the manufacturer recommended heatsink/fan. I read online that these chips can run upto 85c-90c but I wouldn't let it get that high if I were you. My normal usage temps hover around 70c right now while gaming and whatnot, somtimes they hit 80's in benchmarks and I havn't had any problems yet. Been running these speeds and temps. for almost 2 years now.

aaaahhh...i think i know your problem. Your mobo is an a7n8x? Well i read up (i own one of these beautiful boards) that the Northbridge and Southbridge only support a maximum of 191/192 mhz fsb....any higher and the whole thing crashes. This is because they have put a fixed voltage into these chips and when you increase the FSB northbridge and southbridge need more voltage but cannot get it as they have fixed voltage and so it is undervolted and crashes. To solve this si to to a hard mod volt mod...basically a bit of soldering and a tiny bit of maths and then you can adjust VFSB. If you do this it is RECOMMENDED that yo attach active cooling to the northbridgfe and maybe southbridge as extra voltage = extra heat= more instability=you with alot of stress.

hope it helps

Sufiankane...

Heard anything about the A7V8X? I'm having trouble getting anything over 2.25ghz (167 x 13.5) Beyond that I can post, but can't get into windows... Beyond 187 I can't even seem to post.

Tried changing my ram timings, and voltage but it was a no go. Running at 31C under load with a Big Typhoon & 100cfm fan.

a7v8x.....i dont know...my sister has one but she does not let me overclock it.....maybe if you google it but i will research into it. a techniques i use is that i loosen the timings and go to windows with no overclock and then up my FSB form inside windows more dangerous but the i can use other tests. But i do not think the a7v8x is rated for anything higher than 166mhz fsb....may be a reason why you cannot go over it i will do some research into it. Another thing is to mkae sure the agp frequesncy is locked or set to 66mhz
when you alter this frequency you alter the pci frquency yadiyadiay and can corrupt hard drive or not make it work. Temp is fine for you. make sure agp is locked......as i said i will try to do some research into it. also make sure your powe supply is giving enough voltage to everyhting....and do not know what else...i will come back here with my findings soon....

this is NOT true, no offence. I can run my 2500+ with this mobo at 225 FSB and it is fairly stable. I use either 210 or 220 no problem, I keep it at 210 because there is no real performance difference! Try updating your bios to 1009. 1010 has support for sempron's, so no use in gettin that one!

Thanks and I hope I helped a bit. Also, get a better HSF as it might just be running too hot!
