Lapping my HS and Opty 148

Thread Starter
Hey guys, sometime soon I plan on doing a definitive review on the effects of lapping an all copper heatsink AND the heat spreader on my OPTY 148 CABYE.
Ive purchased the lapping kit and am waiting for it to arive sometime today or monday. I will be using AS5. Check back in a few days for comparisons on max OC, temps, and whatnot. Why, might you ask, am i lapping the spreader on my precious opty...because i have balls homie.
Again, ive seen reviews on lapping and it seems the drop is somewhere between 1 and 5 degrees C. I will include pictures and screenshots. I'm hoping for some interesting results. That will be my project for next week.
Any lapping technique/hints would be appreciated in advance.

hey, I lapped my big typhoon and got about a 2degree drop.

My advice... just take your time. I actually lapped it the first time, but was impatient and when I had to RMA my RAM I decided to do a better job of it so I started all over and redid it... took me about 6 hours the second time, but the results were much better.

Why so long. Don't you just basically polish it smooth? I have we sanded my paint on my car faster than that.

yeah, well I used several grit paper
400, 800, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000, and 2,500
I did like 75 passes (left to right) on each grit before rotating the heatsink so that I would go in all directions (keeping right angles) for a total of 4 rotations.
And I did that 2x before moving to the next git paper

i bought this http://www.pcviper.net/
3 grades, then 3 polishing materials. Shouldnt take more than two hours.
And as for "all this for a few degrees C drop"...thats what we are here for, because we do things like this for a few degrees C drop. You just arent extreme enough. no really its more for the experience and the fun of doing some mod to the PC. Im running out of fun things to try, but the dremel comes in a few days so that will open up a world of possibilities.

That is rediculous (no offense). No reason to start at 400 . You are just scratching it and making it rougher than it was to begin with. I would start with maybe 800, probably 1000. And I would wetsand it. Once you wetsand it use some metal polish. I would also use a sander if possible.
