Overclock AMD 3700 San Diego - A8N-SLI Deluxe

Thread Starter
I need some help with the specific settings that will allow for a modest overclock. I am not looking to create molten metal out of my case, but I want to get more out of my system.

I have played around with the OC options, but I am uncertain what gives me my best performance...i.e. - lower the multiplier and up the FSB, or vice versa. I did change the memory timing to 2-3-3-6, per manuf spec. but when I start changing the memory mhz from 400 and changing settings on the proc, my system becomes unstable.

My settings thus far:

FSB: 231
Multi: 11x
voltage: all auto (both proc and memory)
Memory: 400mhz
Memory timings: 2-3-3-6

Seemingly, if I go any higher on the proc settings the system hangs, if I lower the memory speed I can get more out of the proc...but somehow I think that is slowing my system. What is the right balance? If any of my ramblings make sense, please help. Note: I can use the AI built into the Mobo to gain a 10% overclock, but I figure there has to be a better way.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.

To get started, check out this guide. It will cover all of the basics, and will help get you on the same page as the members here. You'll definitely want to use the overclocking options in your BIOS for the long run, though it doesn't hurt to fiddle with the AI Booster to familiarize yourself with some of the options.

Take a read through the guide and post back here as you have questions.
