Final upgrade advice

Thread Starter
Current build:

CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6600
RAM: 2x1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700W (just failed one day after purchase, waiting for RMA), (just previously a ****ty 480W random brand)
GPU: 8600GTS...it sucks!
Mobo: Asus P5N-E SLI
HDD: Some WD 320GB, 2x 750GB WD Caviar Blacks in RAID 0
OS: Vista 32bit, soon Vista 64bit or 7

I use a Black Magic Intensity Pro capture card and record 720p with it. I edit in Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 often.

I need to upgrade my video card and RAM most definitely. Only have about $170 right now what would be the best upgrade? Link me for certain things if you have ideas.

Should I get a certain GPU and have enough for 2 more GB of RAM at the same time, or should I get a GPU with all of that and save up for more RAM later?

If you've already got 2gigs of ram then drop the whole 170 on a video card. You can always add ram later. You definitely need to ditch that crappy 8600. $170 you can get : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150462

or if your a nvidia man

Myself I'd go with the ATi. Either way you get lifetime warranty and if you want to go SLI in the future you can sell the ATi card and buy another GTS 250.

Either one of those two cards will put the serious hurt on that anemic 8600gt. Go with the video save up for ram later. It's a decision you will not regret.

i don't see any bottleneck in win7 64-bit with my 2gb of ram just yet and you probably shouldn't either =P
