replace paste after heatsink removal?

Thread Starter
as the topic states is there an absolute must to replace the paste after removing the heatsink?

reason i'm asking is i wanted to take my case apart to duct some cooling but ended up taking the heatsink along with the fan shroud. (one peice)

i put it back on promtly but i'm just curious if i can run it like this until i can get some better paste.

thanks.

It should be fine, but the paste will be very unefficient.

it was starting to dry out in the middle (new comp) but 85% of it was still uncured.
