Buy or Wait

Thread Starter
Ok, I've been trying to order two 7800 GTX for about a month now, and the store I ordered them from said they can't get a hold of it anymore and that I have to wait a while longer probably till late January. So I told them to cancel those two orders. So I'm thinking, should I get 2x7800 GTX or wait until late January or early February to see if the rumors of G71 is true?

what version of the gtx have you tried to order? the 256 or 512? You could always try to get one from a different store and add a second later.

please fill in your rig info so we know what the rest of your system is.

Also, do you guys think its promising that the G71 can run like a 7800GTX in SLI. It sounds promising b/c a single 256mb 7800GTX can run 8000 in 3DMark05... a 512mb 7800GTX can run 10000... and two 7800GTX 256mb can bench 12000-13000. So I'm assuming the new G71 will beat the 512mb 7800GTX by at least a couple thousand points.

Both lol... I started with the 512mb, and they said they couldn't get it... so I told them I'll just go with 256mb, and now they said they can't get a hold of that... I have to get it from that store b/c I have over $1000 store credit from exchanges in parts.

Also keep in mind that the price of the GTX will go down a bit whenthe new card comes out, so, if anything else you can save some money by waiting. If it was me, I would wait because I think the release should be within a month (ATI is supposed to 'officially' release the x1900xt on the 24th, though it wont be on shelves then).

Here's an article from the Enquirer that suggests an early Feb launch for the G71:

If you can hold on that long it will be worth it as you'll save a bit of money on a GTX.

Yup, I read that already. I just hope that news is true, cause I'll be so dissapointed if it was not since I would have spent all that time waiting for nothing. It's been hell without my PC . Guess I try and wait, and be one of the first to own the G71... lol

well personally i think I'd go w/ a single gtx for the moment... probably a 256mb version. Try to get evga because they have a step up program. Then when the new cards come out you will have the choice of stepping up to a new card or adding a second 7800GTX. Plus, you'll have something to play w/ for the time being.

Can you explain to me in detail how the step up program works? From what I recall... I can buy the evga 7800GTX and then if in 3 months nVidia comes out with a new card I can pay the difference for the G71... is that correct. So would I have to ship the card down to wherever their company is, b/c I have shipping such expensive items such as this.
