I suggest intel for media center pc's its not really a requirement, amd will do well too, but depending on what you plan to have on the pc, you might want either... a single core or dual core.

If you plan on having ALOT of things on the pc, get dual core
If you plan on having a little or medium amount of things on the pc, get single core.

And depending on how responsive and fast you would like the pc to be, you might want to get RAID.

If you aren't aware RAID (depending on which type you set) you can improve your speed in access time and read/write time 30-40%, so if you are getting raid, you basically double the cost of any storage because raid is two or more drives acting as one or more drives but with a drastic performance enhance.

Single Core Processor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116200
Dual Core Processor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116212
Hard Drive [250GB (RAID-0)] - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148065
Hard Drive [500GB (RAID-0)] - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148108

I'd suggest buying 2x of the 500GB Hard Drive's and configuring them in RAID-0, and probably a 36GB Western Digital Raptor for system files.
