Looking at the average performance we can conclude the following :
- HD 5870 is roughly 40% faster than GTX 285
- HD 5870 Cross fire is as fast as GTX 285 Tri Sli and roughly 31% faster than GTX 285 Sli
- HD 5870 Tri Fire is roughly 33% faster than GTX 285 Tri Sli.
In case you haven't seen it, here is a review
that pits Tri-fire 5870s against Tri-SLI GTX285s.
The 5870s are a faster by a wide margin in all games except for Crysis in which scaling was quite poor. Apparently there are other review sites that got much better trifire scaling in Crysis but BenchmarkExtreme wasn't able to replicate their results.
EDIT: Misread your post. I thought you got the three GTX285s instead of the 5870s but now I see you meant to say you were going to get the 5870s as replacements for the GTX285s you already have but are holding on, instead, for Fermi.
That makes a lot of sense because the graphics market is going to become very interesting, come March, with releases, price cuts (hopefully) etc.Edited by Core2uu - 1/26/10 at 6:34pm
