Hi all,

I have a Powercolor ATI HD5670 1GB (stock speed as 775/1000) as well, and I have been considering its overclocking capabilities. I have used 810/1025 (4.5%/2.5% higher) settings for months and it has no crashes so far, so now I am trying to overclock it even higher.

I tried overclocking it to 850/1050 several times using the 10.3 and 10.4 drivers but ended up with a grey screen of death almost immediately or within a few minutes of starting a game. Yesterday, I tried to replicate the same thing using the 10.7 drivers, thinking that the latest drivers might have resolved the issue, but it crashed on Bad Company 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 similarly. Reducing it to 830/1050 also causes the same crash.

However, by finally bringing it down to 830/1030 today, I was able to have a game of Left 4 Dead 2 without crashing for 20 minutes (no crashes yet, but I am still testing). This has led me to the following speculations:

(1) It might not be a driver related issue since the crash occurred on 10.3, 10.4 and 10.7.

(2) It might be a memory clock issue by overclocking the card to its maximum 1050mhz speeds, since all of my crashes involved the following configs with the same memory settings: 850/1050 and 830/1050. However, setting it to 810/1025, 830/1030 seems stable.

(3) I do not think it is an overheating issue since I have used 810/1025 for months without any issues being attributed to heat, and my computer has 4 fans to ventilate the flow of heat.

I was wondering if anyone on this forum has this issue as well. I have read a few overclocking websites on the 5670 stating that its maximum memory clock speed (for stability) seems to be around 1040mhz (will find the links and post it here if I can). Any help will be greatly appreciated, as I wish to find the perfect "sweet spot" to overclock the 5670 1GB without instability. Hopefully at 850/1030 if the memory clock speed is the issue.

Thanks!

Edit: Update: I used the "Auto-Tune" function under ATI Overdrive (the option under temperatures) and got a stable 820/1040. Not sure how reliable this feature is, but both 830/1030 and 820/1040 enabled me to play for 30 mins (ran Starcraft 2 with 7 AI players and AFKed) without crashing. It seems like I'm one of the unlucky ones who cannot OC it to max.

Edit: Update 2: Just had a 1 hr 30 mins game on Left 4 Dead 2 using the suggested Auto-tune settings at 820/1040. Very stable, no crashes. Going to try 825/1040 then 830/1040 Auto-tune seems reliable, at least for my case.

I would love to join the club, i have the HIS 5670 Iceq 1gig gddr5, with ai auto tune running 840///1040 i honestly love this card, its the 1st upgrade ive done in a while because my old 8600gts held its own for so long. I honestly love this card, the performance is more than i ever expected, it never runs hotter than 40C even after hours and hours of gaming. Unfortunetly i have a fail cpu and can sometimes feel my gpu bottlenecking the cpu (upgrades comming in the future )
