i just got my Sapphire 5670 512 the other day and can only get it to 825x1140 stable via tray tools. CCC wont even reg the OC can someone help this noob out with a solution to get this bad boy up to par with the rest of ya's?? help would be appreciated

EDIT_ its the GDDR 5 version of the card and i can overclock it to 850x1150 but i dont get any difference in Fps so i stuck with the lower clocks to keep it a little cooler even tho its only a 3 degrees C in change, i also wanna try the pencil mod but i am afraid to do soo since i got rid of my HD 4650 because a friend needed a card to play star craft 2 with, is there any suggestions on how i can make this bad boy a little badder without risking the card it self. like maybe overclocking it through bios i still am clueless on how to do so even tho i have the option with my mobo's bios! i think the settings go up to 250 with 1 degree increments, have no clue what i should set it to because i herd its dangerous to do so because 1 increment to much could fry the card all together! please responses will be much appreciated.

Well, IF you did break the card and wiped the pencil mod off with rubber and alcohol there would be no way they could tell you did it - then you could return it under warranty.

You can't overclock GFX in the motherboard BIOS, has to be done in CCC or a similar program. You could use MSI Afterburner, I use it on my Asus card - and it gives you a few stats making it slightly better than CCC. Also make sure you're using the latest ATI driver - not the Sapphire driver.

Also, can't find a link to a volt-mod on my card, they've all 404'd or have no more images anyone help?

Clos,
Well any cooler that fits 6600, 7600, X1600, X1650, HD2600, HD3650, HD4670, HD4650 (just quoting from my Zalman cooler manual - cause it fits) should fit on this card. So look around. This one is a bit old (http://www.vantecusa.com/en/product/view_detail/98) but it may fit looking at what it could fit.

well my bios has an option "GPU overclocking" and has a down scale just google my mobo it has the option but i dont want to risk it! also i use ATI tray tools after burner wont let me mess with the voltage and neither will ccc and i cant install any other drivers but the ones that came with the disk tried about 1000 times and they all fail and i have to revert back to the old ones. annoying!!!!! i mean i can play games alright i get an average 28 fps but when i try to play the witcher 2 i can only get a 22 avg fps on high settings, with a 1440x900 res i dotn even try to play in hd this card sucks in 1080p, i just need to up the voltage a little bit to get it to 900x1200 if i could! and i know that would help me alot! just dont know how to go about dooing so. and tray tools is currently the only program that works for me like i said ccc doesnt even reg the OCing. HELPPPPPP (pulling my hair out)

Wouldn't say the card sucks in Full HD, I only play at 1080P anyway, just usually medium-high graphics - also 1440x900 isn't 16:9 so it will look bad, try 1600x900 (or 1280x720) those will look better. Usually with crashing I find the memory to be the culprit, just keep the memory clock back and raise the core.

Wish the card had voltage tweaks, alas they don't design them to suit us "performance" mid-rangers. With a voltage tweak you could easily get over 1000 core.

You do click the lock in CCC to unlock the overclocking features? I'd also suggest you could get a better HSF and some memory heatsinks, just remember to clean the GPU and MEM with alcohol when applying.

yeah it does for me on my 52 inch in full 1080p but on my 17 inch hp 16:10 1440x900 is my native res and it runs and looks alot better than in HD like the pixel rate looks better as well HD is all fuzzy and what not! especially when i boot with xp for gaming due to my lack of ram! and tray tools gives me the options to change the voltage but i dont know what to set it too! there are currently 2 options on it! 0.900 and 1.100 and a custom vtmod option to make my own voltage, after i make the voltage tho it tells me its unsafe to runn it at this voltage! so idno! i think i might just get another card! the 5770's are getting pretty cheap nowadays! ohh and could my Athlon x2 7850 dual core black edition 3.3ghz be bottlenecking my 5670 in any way???? and any more quick tips will be appreciated!

Which program warns you of unsafe operation - remove it Don't think a dual core would bottleneck operations too much, gaming-wise very few take (I'm not sure any) advantage of all the cores and while other cores could be dedicated to running background tasks I think your clocks are more than sufficient to cover that.

It's a real pity you can't get more from the card, unfortunately its luck of the draw with most computer components :/ But even I plan to upgrade my card to a 5770/6770/550/560 (I have 9" space restriction). (5770/6770/550 being on par and the 560 needing some "adjustments" but just being much better)

what temperatures do you guys consider risky ?

I'm thinking of giving it more voltage and try to touch 1000mhz when warranty ends in 11months.

If you clean off the pencil with alcohol (not the stuff you drink - the cleaning kind) there would be no way they could tell you did the pencil mod - so in theory you could break it with the pencil mod and send it in under "warranty" - but don't quote me on that.

As for temperatures, keep it under 80 should ensure long life of the card.
